Single best feature for me? One page listed every note on the guitar neck and was shown as musical notation (dots on grids). I don't know that I've seen that anywhere else, clearly shown in a single graphic.

I bought this book after reading an online interview with Jimmy Page (LedZep), who said it was a big part of his formative learning as a youth. He liked that the format they used in the book was the same as the charts he saw as a studio musician. I don't know much theory or how to read guitar music, other than tablature. This book has been a big help. It's a bit thin, but chock full of good information that is explained quite well. Later learned that several world-famous British guitarists were also Weeden "Disciples"; Eric Clapton, John, Paul & George (sorry Ringo!), Pete Townsend and Dr. Brian May.

From beginning to end, this book applies to players of all ages and is easy to understand. He breaks it down into manageable chunks of information. He addresses the reader/player as if 2 friends are sitting down to talk. I recommend this to anyone who needs to cover the basics to start using their guitar. He even covers reading music for those who do not already know how. Highly recommended by someone who knows music, but bought this for their kids (16 and 18) to use, since explaining/teaching is not my strong suite. I learned things from it, too! Mostly, have fun.

Bert does a wonderful job explaining how to hold the guitar, finger picking, chords, and scales in a way that is encouraging and easy to understand. After one day, you might not be jamming out to anything complicated, but you will be able to finger pick "Jingle Bells", begin to read music, and figure out the easy parts of some of your favorite songs.

I’ve never seen this book.
Can we get real for a minute?
The notion that one can “Play in a Day” is idiotic. One can learn Bonjour and Merci in a day but they can’t “Speak French in a day”. “Hey! I speak French! Great book!!!!!!!”
Can we get real?
If you want to learn guitar, get busy. It will take years to even (truly) please yourself (let alone those listening to you).
If I wrote a book I’d entitle it “Play in a year”.
Instant rice, yes - but instant guitar? I don’t think so - not guitar playing worthy of that name.
Can we get real?
I would never buy a book whose title was such an exaggeration - even if Jimmy Page (a true artist) started there.

It’s well written and explains things in a way that a complete novice can understand. It still requires dedication to learn but it eases your journey. The book title is probably a bit of a reach and whilst you’ll certainly be making some progress after it’s opening pages, you’ll still need application and to not be tempted to move ahead until you’re actually competent with each lesson.
