About Bertie Du Plessis
Although winning South Africa's National Science Olympiad in his final year at school, Bertie Du Plessis decided to study literature and theology at the Universities of Stellenbosch (South Africa) and Tuebingen (Germany). He founded his MindPilot (Pty) Ltd consultancy in 1995. Before turning to business he had a prolific part-time career as journalist, reviewing literature, fine art and movies for major newspapers in his indigenous Afrikaans. His Op-Eds for major Afrikaans newspapers on crime and education in South Africa ignited lively debate in the media. He is a published essayist and represented in a collection of major Afrikaans essayists of the 1980s. He has contributed to ground-breaking publications on the old political order in South Africa, on higher education, on philosophy and the arts. He now enjoys blogging on South Africa's largest business and financial portal, fin24.com and writes short, practical pocket books on issues encountered in his consulting practice. He is also an accomplished artist with three solo exhibitions, amongst others in South Africa's premier gallery, the Goodman. He was the first South African to have self-published on Amazon Kindle with "Don't Lose Your Pension," a book that evolved from discussions on his blog during the financial crisis of 2008.
