About the Author
Sally Vaughan-Johnston is a professional chef, food writer and food stylist. This is her third collaboration with the ladies of Best of Bridge -- a stellar collection of recipes that will be treasured for years to come.
What is the Best of Bridge?
In 1975, at a weekend getaway, eight women friends had an idea: Since a consistent highlight of their decade-old bridge group was the food they prepared and enjoyed together, perhaps they should think about writing a cookbook. This spur-of- the-moment notion was the impetus for The Best of Bridge, which went on to become one of the most successful brands in Canadian publishing, with more than three million books sold.
Written in a welcoming style, the recipes are easy to execute, yet produce "gourmet" results. Their unique approach, which includes jokes to keep cooks smiling, has ensured a faithful following. The Best of Bridge recipes are staples at potlucks across the country, and the generation of children raised on them is now cooking for themselves. "We get lots of mail from people looking for specific books to give to their adult kids," the Ladies report. "They want to make dishes that were always served at family celebrations. Our recipes have become part of their domestic traditions."
As the Ladies would say, "You should have these books. We've tested, tasted and revised. We promise you'll love every recipe."

I was very excited to get the opportunity to review The Best of Bridge Slow Cooker Cookbook from Robert Rose publishing. Even just thumbing through the book, I had to dog ear about half of the pages for recipes I knew I would want to try. I have tried several since and I can honestly say there is not one recipe in this book I have tried so far that my family and I didn't love.
If you don't have a slow cooker, go and get one immediately, along with a copy of this book. You will not be disappointed!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher.
This book is a collection of recipes from a bridge group that has been tried and tested. There are 200 recipes featuring recipes from appetizers to entrees to desserts to beverages, all made in the slow cooker! The recipes are not complex and they are ones that I would actually feed my family. The book is hardcover but it is spiral-bound inside that can be held open to easily follow the recipe. While there are not pictures for all the recipes, I found I was able to picture them just fine. My husband actually browsed this book and found so many recipes he wants me to try! It really is an easily to follow cookbook and the recipes all sound delicious!
I received this book to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

Good information about using a slow cooker as well as down to earth recipes. Stresses use of cheaper cuts of meat for meat dishes. Some very good soup recipes.Published on January 17, 2013 by Gwendolyn B. Hall
