Good compilation to give people unfamiliar with Chikara an idea of what the producst is. Its American-style lucha libre with elements of Japanese puroresu and traditional American style wrestling. While some of the wrestlers may seem green, Chikara is also a training ground so some of these wrestlers are new on the scene and others are more experienced. So even the matches that may not be at a high quality you'll still see some cool moves and guys utlizing their characters/gimmicks and charisma to still bring the fun.

There are some amazing high flying moves that you will not see in WWE or TNA let alone Ring of Honor. Especially the match between Mike Quackenbush and Claudio Castignoli. The Kings of Wrestling tag matches are also really good.

The DVD actually features 9 matches with Jigsaw versus Hallowicked.

I've only discovered Chikara this year and for me, personally, its been more spot on then a lot of promotions simply because I find the product more fun and wrestlers more entertaining.

I am a fan of professional wrestling. I am a fan of the mid-west indy scene, of ROH, NOAH, Dragon Gate, NWA, WCCW, ECW (not WWE-CW) and yes, even WSX. I have seen some of the Chikara talent on Ring of Honor shows and have to say I was impressed. I have visited the Chikara website many times and wondered about the type of show they put on. After purchasing the Best of Chikara dvd, I must say I am now a fan. The dvd compiles a great mix of wrestling styles and in ring experience. The individual gear worn by some of the wrestlers is very creative and colorful. I was very impressed by the Lucha/Japanese/European/traditional mix of wrestling crammed into this dvd. I would highly recommend this dvd to even the casual wrestling fan. It may introduce you to professional wrestling as you've probably never seen it before.

Chikara is an independent wrestling organization that is sort of a hybrid between luche libre, Japanese, and American style wrestling. The company features characters (and I do mean characters) that are often wearing masks and/or are completely over the top. The annoucning is odd since there seem to be different people handling the play-by-play and color for nearly every match, but they are all very entertaining and there were some honest "laugh out loud" lines throughout. The wrestling is entertaining and about what you would expect from an independent promotion.

There are some drawbacks however. The location of some of the shows varies from a half empty high school gym, to a bar, to what appears to be a ROTARY meeting. I know it's not the WWE, but come on - when you have only 2 rows of chairs surrounding the ring with no guard rail and kids milling about, it's sort of hard to take it seriously. The production values are decent, but they manage to show two matches from the same tag team tournament to determine their champion. Problem is that they show the final first, and have the team who wins show up two matches later on the DVD in a match from an earlier round. A minor compliant I know, but little things like that can turn people off before they give it a second look. Finally, the title is somewhat misleading since this really is not a "best of" as much as it is a DVD showing a lot of what Chikara has to offer (all the matches take place between 2005 and 2006 and there were far better matches that didn't make the cut).

Overall, if you are a fan of wrestling check it out. If you like what you see, there are places on the web that you can purchase their shows from.

I really enjoyed this dvd a lot. Chikara has a lot of positive things going for it. They have the guys doing comentary on the matches. Which is extermly fun to listen to. Seeing as both heels and faces doing. They actual try to give a non kay face opinon at times. They have mixed Luca, american, japanize junoirs, and some mat into a sweet, sweet product. I enjoyed all of the matches on the dvd. But the one I loved the most was the Womens match. Which was excellent. If your looking for something compleatly diffrent from everyone else. Want some great humor, funny gimicks and some good to great wrestling. This is the company you want to look into. Chikara is good.
