I thot this book was a wonderful way to show once more that love truly does make a family.
All the colors of the rainbow represent the diversity in the world around us. Why should we only be able to pick one, or maybe two colors... celebrate this diversity, don't teach our children to hate. We must teach them to accept all people for their many different attributes and in no way to shun them because they they may have two mommies, or two daddies, or just one mommy and no daddy, etc... children can be cruel to each other at such young ages. Parents do not need to fuel this behavior.
Please read your child this book and start them on the path to celebrating diversity. If this includes going to your annual pride parade, that's wonderful! The pride parade is becoming a great family event for our glbt community. It's turning into less and less of an event with topless grrl bikers and men in leather sm gear and becoming an exibit of the groups in the community that support each other and their families. It's truly a celebration of community acceptance and pride.
Hate is not a family value, please love your neighbors and read your children this beautiful book.

Bought this book for my good friend's daughter. She is bilingual and comes from a two-mommy household. It's her favorite book! My friend was really impressed that I was able to find a book like this for families like hers.

A refreshing look at families

I was very pleased to find a book that shares a realistic point of view about families. Not only is this a child of african american heritage, this child also has a same sex family. I was pleased to see that families like these are not just ignored. This is a great book for children being raised in same sex families. It is also a great book for children in conventional hetrosexual families to help them see that gay and lesbian families are very much the same as their own.

I almost bought this book thinking it was about something totally different! If you're like me and are looking for a diverse series (multi-cultural) I enjoyed the (Baby Faces) books by Roberta Grobel Intrater.

Nate liebt alle Farben, die ihn umgeben. Als seine Schwarze Mutter Laura und seine weiße Mutter Jean fragen, welches seine Lieblingsfarbe ist, wundert er sich, wie er sich entscheiden soll. Den ganzen Tag denkt er darüber nach: beim Schuh-Kauf, Malen, beim Picknick mit seinen Müttern und seiner Schwester, beim Spielen mit seiner Freundin, auf dem Spielplatz mit seinen Freund*innen Miquel und Mandy... nachts träumt er so gar von der Frage. Als am nächsten Tag seine Mütter sich vorbereiten, um zu einer Demo zu gehen, sieht Nate die Regenbogenfahne und entscheidet sich dafür, dass der Regenbogen die beste Farbe ist.

Mir gefällt in dem Buch, dass die Realität einer Regenbogenfamilien mit zwei lesbischen Müttern ganz selbstverständlich dargestellt und nicht problematisiert wird.
Der Text ist wiederkehrendem Aufbau geschrieben, was viele jüngere Kinder sehr mögen.
