One of the shortest stories I have read so far. Giles Redmond was getting married for the second time. His soon to be bride Laura had a childhood crush on him but no one ever knew about it. For Laura it was a dream come true. So when he proposed to her, she felt as if a dream of hers has come true. She did not expect him to love her but she did take a leap of faith.
“The marriage would be one of convenience, not the love match she’d dreamed of for years on cold winter nights. She’d dreamed of dancing on the ice with Giles at the first skating party of the season.”
Giles, on the other hand, had a terrible secret which could destroy their marriage even before it started.
Narratives…

Though the story was short and very sweet, it was more like a short story in an anthology. One of the feel good kind of stories where you know you will end up with a smile and a warm heart. I have no clue why the author has not expanded on the story. For it can be such a beautiful love story with a lot of conflicts and a strong story plot.

To me it sounds like the author has plotted a scene rather than the story itself. But if the author ever decides to write this novel with a few more plots and conflicts I would love to review it.

Passion…
In such a short span, the author has managed to bring a lot of passion between the two protagonists. It was an endearing moment when their hearts join forever.

I received this as an ARC for an honest review.

Giles Redmond had returned from the war and was injured more than he had told his future wife, Laura Wakefield. They had made a marriage arrangement. He had lost part of his left leg. He had to think about his daughter, Kathryn. Kathryn and Laura got along good and if something were to happen to him, he knew that both would be taken care of. You see he was wealth. As he saw them on the ice skating he wondered what the other people would think of his missing limb. There were only a few who knew he had lost part of his leg. He wondered how Laura would react on the wedding night when he revealed it to her. On the day of the wedding he checked everything and heard laughter out of Kathryn’s room which lightens his mood. He was worried about the wedding night. He looks out his window and saw all of the horses and carriages and remembered he had to keep it together. After everyone left, they went upstairs and Giles told Laura he would come to her. When he entered the room she noticed he was on crutches instead of using his cane. He sat on the bed and revealed what was left of his leg. She did not react like he thought she would; see she had been in love with him for along time. She did not care about his leg and with that they became one. Love HEA stories.

First, I would like to thank Ann Jacobs for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Ann Jacobs is quickly becoming a favorite author of mine with so many great novels she has put out in the last year. This quick Christmas read is no exception to that list of great reads. It is quite different from the books I am used to reading from her. However, given the time of season it was a nice change of pace.

The main message I received from Laura and Giles story was if you truly love someone their disability should not be a factor in wanting to be totally into your significant other.

The details put into the wedding scene and the way Laura looked was incredible! The book was written in a different era. So it was nice to get a visualization of how things were done back in that day.

Smiles came to my face when she mentioned they made ropes of popcorn and cranberries and hung them along with dozens of exquisite blown glass balls. That sounds like such a great pastime to do at Christmas with your family

I got this ARC for an honest book review and I found it quite interesting to read and so I gave it 4 stars.

I think that the author did a very good job at writing this short story. Reading Laura Wakefield and Giles Redmond's story was very heart warming for even though this was a marriage arrangement so that Giles daughter Kathryn could be well taken care should something happen to him. The story had many beautiful details that went into their wedding day.

My understanding of the story was that someone's disability should not be a factor if you truly love and care for that person. You will always see beyond that and see them for who they really are no matter what and always be there for that person in good times and in bad times!

This might just be the shortest story I’ve ever read, which is a shame, because it was good!
This is a historical story set in the 1800’s. Giles has returned from war a broken man. He needs to marry in order to provide a mother for his daughter. Laura has loved Giles from afar since they were in school together. His marriage proposal was made out of necessity, but Laura holds out hope that he can grow to love her.
I would love to see this story in a full novel to get more back story on the two characters, and to watch their relationship bloom. Over all it was a great (short) read.
This book was free in return for an honest review.
