Sure there was "Green Tambourine" and "Jelly Jungle," but that doesn't mean they were all that was worth listening to of this band of oddities. Real spotlights of this album consist of "Blueberry Blue," "Ask Me If I Care," "Catch Me Falling," and my all-time favorite "Everything Is You." All very unique in their own way, and, in my opinion, they exceed "Green Tambourine" in every way. This album only has a few tracks that aren't too great (two or three) but really, the majority is well worth the money. If you want to hear something new, try this one out. Just don't expect to find anybody in this lifetime that shares such an interest, unless you force somebody to hear them. Unfortunately, nobody is interested in trying out unusual/dated music nowadays....
My only complaint is the lack of the remaining four Lemon Piper recordings "Quiet Please," "Danger," "Hard Core," and "I Need Someone (The Painter)." The only way you can hear these is by purchasing other Lemon Piper Greatest Hits compilations, meaning you'll pretty much have three copies of this one, with the exception of an extra track or two. Pft! Its a scheme I tell you....
Some Modern Day Music Fans would call The Lemon Pipers Music Weird & Strange but I called The Lemon Pipers Music Unique & Different & alot of today's Music Weird & Strange!.....Is this Music Bubblegum Music?.....Sorta: but The Pipers Music also had a slight touch of Pop, Psychedelia & even Acid-Rock in it. Hey!.....It was The Swinging 60's & The Beatles were still together & "Hey Jude" Plus Magical Mystery Tour's "All You Need Is Love" & Hello Goodbye" were also Riding High on The Charts then Plus The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Etc Etc Etc were also getting in on The Flower Power Scene!.....The Lemon Pipers Fit Right In during That Era and it was Great!!Read more ›
In terms of commercially-successful singles, The Lemon Pipers, whose music could best be described as "psychedelic bubblegum" compared to the others, pulled up the rear at Buddah with just three Billboard Pop Hot 100 charters, compared to seven each for The 1910 Fruitgum Co. and Ohio Express (not counting their two Cameo hits). On the other hand, they were also the only ones with a # 1 to their credit, as Green Tambourine reached that pinnacle early in 1968 b/w No Help From Me on Buddah 23.Read more ›
