Olivia Langston has just moved across the US for an internship at a local winery. Leaving behind heartache and loneliness of North Carolina, Olivia is excited about the possibilities in California. A new start is just what she needs to put the past firmly behind her. No one to feel sorry for her because her ex-husband not only cheated on her -- and had a child with his lover -- and blamed Olivia because of her inability to have children.
Olivia spots a gorgeous man across the bar on one of her first nights in town, and can't believe she made out with him in a public place. Refusing to give in to the heat between them, she leaves without getting his name. Imagine her surprise to find out that he's her boss' son.
A nice slow solid romance - quiet a treat from a lot of books that have the main characters falling into bed -- and love -- within hours. Granted this book takes place over the course of several months, it was refreshing to see how the characters got to know each other and respect each other's boundaries.
Part of a Series: DeVine Winery
Looking forward to Garrett's and Hannah's story.

Olivia Langston is a transplant from North Carolina, suffering from the heartbreak of divorce from a cheating husband three years earlier. When she relocates to California to complete a business internship she has no idea it will prove the pivotal moment in her life.
Hired at DeVine Winery, she begins working on redesigning the company’s website, even though she doesn’t know anything about wine. Olivia is eager to learn, but not so eager to fall into the arms of Daniel Black, one of the owners.
Due to a chance encounter a short time before beginning her employment, she can’t get the sexy vineyard owner out of her mind—only later discovering he’s her new boss. For his part, Daniel, isn’t easily put off and pursues her even as he has a jealous ex set on reclaiming him (and making Olivia’s life miserable).
What works about this novel are the characters. Daniel is utterly charming and engaging as the hero who is smitten from the moment Olivia walks into his life. He’s polished, poised and honorable. Olivia is equally believable as a woman juggling the heartache of past pain vs. the risk of embracing a new romance. There are two equally wonderful supporting character—Daniel’s brother, Garrett, and Olivia’s friend, Hannah—who I hope will be getting their own starring novel next in this series. I loved them both, especially their loyalty to Daniel and Olivia respectfully.
The plot flowed beautifully, each thread weaving with the next, all of which served to keep me eagerly flipping pages on my Kindle. Loni Flowers writes beautiful descriptions with emotions that artfully tug at heartstrings. The romance was swee,t but sensual at the same time, without being overdone. These are characters who felt like family and friends and will resonate with me a long time. I eagerly look forward to the next novel in this wonderful series. As romance novels go, this is a book you don’t want to miss!
Daniel Black knows from the minute he sees Olivia that he needs to get to know her better. Olivia wants to keep things strictly professional. She needs this internship and her past has taught her to keep men at arms length. Olivia didn't count on Daniel's persistence and an undeniable sexual attraction. Things quickly heat up, but tension in the office around Daniel's ex, causes trouble and Olivia questions if she is willing to risk her heart again...
I gave The Best I Never Had 5 STARS, it contains everything I love in a romance. I wanted Olivia and Daniel together from the first kiss, and as twists and turns found their way into the story, I found myself speed reading with my fingers crossed that things would turn out the way I hoped. Daniel is a swoon worthy romantic hero and I think that readers will find themselves adding him to their list of most romantic book boyfriends I certainly did. I loved this book to the last page. I am also excited for what is next, the author does a beautiful job of setting the stage for Garrett's (Daniel's brother) story. I can't wait to see what becomes of him and Hannah. If you are looking for a good contemporary read with a little unpredictability and a perfect HEA I recommend you check out The Best I Never Had by Lori Flowers
