Editorial Reviews

In only eight months, 17 year-old Ritchie Valens shot from obscurity of a Mexican band in San Fernando, California, to key billing on a major 1959 rock tour. His first album had just hit the racks, and his second single--"Donna/La Bamba"--was a two-sided smash that reached Number Two on the national charts. Then tragedy struck, and Valens, along with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper, was killed on that fateful day of February 3, 1959, in the plane crash that rocked the world.

Ritchie Valens tragically died at the age of 17. As such, he didn't leave a very large body of work. He left three great classic songs; "Come On, Let's Go", "Donna" and "La Bamba". The rest of his recorded output isn't as great as those songs, but most of it is pretty good. Who knows how much he could have accomplished if he had lived? I recommend this CD to everyone.

The movie La Bamba came-out when I was in grade school. I loved the movie and the song La Bamba. I purchased this album and Chuck Berry's greatest hits on the same day, and I haven't been sorry.

What amazed me about this album is how many of the songs were included in the film La Bamba--even down to Paddiwack Song.

I was further amazed by range of Ritchie's voice the melodic guitar riffs.

Music tends to be a very personal thing, but I was still surprised by how much I enjoyed the entire album.

I recommend purchasing this album if you're a fan of 50's rock. Ritchie was a 50's rocker, make no mistake about that--no doo wopping to be found here.

Ritchie, like a lot of his contemporaries and predecessors defined what rock and roll was. I listen to much harder edged stuff but there are times when you have to pull out the albums that your favorites favorites listened to.

I have been a huge fan of Ritchie's since I was a little girl and saw the movie. This album is really great and has a wonderful collection of songs, some even bring me to tears. The only downfall is that there isn't enough music on it!
