This is a beautiful love story showing how love and forgiveness can redeem. In real life, your man can really upset you,but you can fall in love with him all over again, even after years of marriage. I loved this book and it will remain one of my favorite reads, partly just because its so complicated, like real life.
The author has a style that is completely her own. Its lyrical with great metaphors and beautiful flow. Yes, there is betrayal and heartache, but its also the best love story I've ever read. I'm not an easy reader to please. I really hope more people find her books, because its like discovering a treasure trove. Her fan base seems small but loyal so far,and she's won my loyalty. I do hope more people review her books so she can get the exposure she deserves and readers get so much in return. I would have gladly paid a bestseller price for her books.
That isn't the case here.
Instead what we have is a man who is so manipulative and a woman who decides staying in an incredibly unhealthy relationship is so much better than being alone. Why? Because then she'd actually have to try. Andy, her man of ten years, cheats on her. She walks in on them. Then she finds out that it wasn't a one time thing but an on-going thing for about four months. He then turns around and blames everything on her, and she takes it. Only once does she show him her anger and how much he hurt her, but that's not until about 75% of the book. Before then, she just does the whole passive-agressive thing which gets incredibly tiresome. Oh, and he's also a drug addict, so that excuses everything. He needs her to just get over his CONSTANT betrayals because otherwise he'll hurt himself and it will be all her fault. Stupidly, she agrees.
Over and over, the author tells us how they're best friends and that they love each other, despite his lying and cheating. But in reality, SHE is the one who loves him, and SHE is the one who is his best friend, not the other way around. Not once during this whole entire book did I see anything from Andy that SHOWED us that Lee was his soul mate. I hate that they were together in the end because Lee is obviously an idiot who will continue to make excuses for him and take the blame for everything. Do I think he will be faithful to her? No I don't. Do I think that Lee will eventually leave him? No I don't. So all in all, this was one depressing read and something I sorely regret reading! So glad it was KU.
On a side note, I lost any sympathy or respect for Lee when she uses Stuart the way she did. If these are the types of stories this author is writing, these books are definitely not for me.
