"Secrets hurt when they're kept hidden, burried deep inside where no one can see them..."
Child abuse is an overwhelming subject to write about and I admire every author who is willing to take that risk and tell a story about this kind of struggle.
This is what this book is all about...
Abuse, servive, sadness, struggle, love and hope!
Betrayed by Blood brought to my attention by the amazing person who wrote it. Victoria is a super sweetheart that I just couldn't wait for her debute novel to be released and I'm so happy for her for fulfilling her dream.
Kylee is a English school teacher. She loves her job and manage to work through her ghosts from her past as a victim of child abuse.
After trying to help one of her students and almost being raped, she accept a job offer in Korea. That's where she meets Alex... Oh Alex... <sigh>
Alex is a Delta Force army man who stays in Korea for an investigation along with his team mates. His attraction to Kylee is too strong to ignore and they both find themselves just can't stay away.
Although her ghosts are always there, Alex manages to help her deal with them and breaks her walls of trust issues.
But, like every good ol' story, past has it's way of getting back and mess things up...
This is the 1st book of a trilogy. It ends with such a massive cliffhager that I truly can't wait for book #2!!!
Great job Victoria! I couldn't have been more proud of you!
Write woman, write! 😉

This story sucked me in right away. While the subject matter was at times very intense and hard to read it was well written and had me looking forward to the brighter side of things. Something new popped up at every turn and had my mouth gaping wide open. I can't even begin to imagine the troubles ahead or the turmoil the characters are going to go through. I'm ready to see some serious butt whooping happen to a few certain people for sure.

This book gives you all of the feelings possible in a short amount of story. This is the first book in a series, and it definitely draws you in.

Kylie Parker has more than her fair share of problems to deal with. Every day she feels broken, unworthy, unlovable, but she hides it all well. She has had a lot of practice. Hiding the secrets of her childhood from the outside world, no one would guess how much pain she is really in. When she is convinced by circumstances out of her control to leave the country for a while, she sees it as a reprieve and maybe even a fresh start, at least for the time she is away. Then she meets Alex, the violet eyed hearth throb that works for the United States government and he plans to make everything right for Kylee. All he sees when he looks at her is someone he needs to protect with every fiber of his being. What makes the need so strong? As their relationship progresses and secrets are told the danger heightens too. Who is putting whom at more risk? Their relationship is a roller coaster and I am buying a ticket for the ride.

I thought the book was a bit short, but compelling, I read it in a day because I couldn't stop myself. I felt Kylee's pain, her embarrassment, her self doubt. I felt the relief when Alex put his arms around her. I got angry when she revealed her secrets and I felt the betrayal she felt. No matter the length of the book I wanted more. I would have wanted more if it was twice as long. The author has a talent for describing a scene so perfectly that you feel like you are there. Renteria using South Korea for this crazy love story changes the dynamic like I haven't seen before. South Korea plays a part of the story and it is refreshing to see a place that I know little about be a focal point like this. I am looking forward to the next installment, that cliffhanger was a doozy.

Betrayed by Blood from debut author Victoria Renteria was a pleasant surprise. Not often do you find such depth from a new author. But, Renteria delivered an emotional and very intense read that had me unable to put the book down. The cliffhanger ending has me dying to read more…

The book begins with an emotional punch, a look back on the main characters tragic past. From the first page you are sucked into an emotional rollercoaster that is both uncomfortable and heart-wrenching at times. Kylee Parker is a military brat, abused by her mother when her father was deployed. She’s broken, but determined to go through life as if nothing happened. Kylee takes a position in Korea, where she meets Alexander Grant and the two find themselves drawn to each other, even though both are not looking for any kind of emotional attachment.

The romance between Alexander and Kylee was intense, but what made this book wonderful was the tragedy of it. Kylee is a compelling character that draws you in and you’ll find yourself invested in her plot. The setting of South Korea was also a welcome change. Renteria paints a picture of the country that wasn’t the usual backdrop of a romance. Then there was the cliffhanger. The book was short, but it was fast-paced and at the end, being left hanging was a bit of a frustration…but the need for more is fun. Can’t wait for the next installment.

As far as the self-published aspect, I have to say the editing was top-notch. I found no issues that jumped out at me and I read an ARC. Renteria is truly an author to watch. I did find the ending slightly rushed, with the antagonist a bit stereotypical, but it was a minor annoyance. Overall the book was fantastic, and a great read. I would highly recommend BETRAYED BY BLOOD if you are looking for an emotional romance. There are some trigger warnings though, topics such as child abuse, rape and adultery are covered and are also described.
