I think this would technically be classified as a “novelette,” but I’m not sure. I loved what I’ve read from this author’s Shadowlight Saga, but I’ve had mixed results when reading different series by the same author, so I was a little hesitant. Yet the indomitable fact is that I am a sucker for Arthurian lore so I finally caved and…well, you can see the five stars, you can see I should have read it sooner!

Like I said, this is a novelette, so there isn’t a very long storyline. It’s really just introducing the main players and setting the stage and making you care about the characters. This is probably the first Arthurian retelling I’ve read where I actually didn’t like Arthur. Normally, he’s my favorite character, but here he was cast as more of a neutral/potentially villainous individual and I really don’t know where I stand on him.

This was written very well with suspense and even a few twists as well as the beginning sparks of a glorious romance. I adore this author, I adore both her series and on my Kindle!

I almost chose not to read this book but I am so glad I did.

Living in a world of the five senses, you forget the old ways of inner light and leading. Sometimes we make decisions based on the senses and only one or two of the triad. But through this book, every decision you make will fail if you don't take into account all three: Love, Protection and Honor. Why do we continue to ignore the deepness within and make decisions based on what others want? Telling ourselves that their motives are pure.

This is fiction but there is no fiction without non-fiction.

Wonderfully written with a depth for imaginations and deep thought.

If you love tales of Lady Guinevere and her beloved knight as I do, please read this and savor. The story is written from the heart as if Mande herself is the mystical Guin. I loved this book and highly recommend it. And now I am going to continue the journey of Guinevere in book # 2 "Quest."

It is fun! if you like historical fiction, then this book's totally for you! It's VERY descriptive, down to the very last detail!

It has a little bit of drama, and marriage and stuff, but it does not talk about divorce or anything like that.... {but to it does have a little jealousy in husbands...}

Basically, it talked a lot about how the "olden times" were like... even down to the outfits and castles!!!!!

It was good, and I'm starting on the second one.... hope it will be as good as the first!

If you have not read any of Mande Matthews's books yet, you need to as soon as possible! She is a creative writer and her stories are always beautifully narrated. Betrothal is not the only work of Mande Matthews I have gotten my hands on, her first book in the Shadowlight saga - Bonded, is also a masterpiece. She writes with such fluidity, the words are almost lyrical. And I am most pleased to say, she doesn't let you down.

Guinevere's castle and kingdom, lies solely on her decision. Whether or not to wed Arthur Pendragon - who has alter motives in seeking her hand, than just wanting peace, love, and joy for their land. But Guin's heart belongs to another, the mysterious knight that rides alongside Arthur. What will her decision be?

I want more! Betrothal is a short novella, somewhat like a preview to a grander story. The book starts off with what seems to be a diary entry of Guin's inner thoughts and her admitting to a relationship with Arthur, and then shifts to the events before that; how they met, what happened, and how she made up her mind. It then, ends with a `continuance' page with another diary entry of Guin's -- A unique way to move the story along, and capture the reader's attention. I know I was hooked! The last continuance page alone was captivating, and you'll catch on that maybe things did not turn out as Guin expected. This was what made me want to get my hands on Quest the next installment to this series.

I want to talk about the characters, but because it is such a short book, I believe it is still a little too early to determine the personals of each character. Hopefully in book two, we will get background details and learn more of the characters. I can, however, say that Guinevere is a character of spunk.

The story was ok and eluded to some interesting things to come, however it left me wanting more. I feel the author would have done better merging the stories for a complete ending, but to make us purchase another book is in poor taste.

The author did an astounding job on historical-accuracy when it comes to wardrobe and dialogue.

This is a historical-fantasy. Quick paced with heart-fluttering romance, lovable characters, and great world-building. A magical tale I'd love to live!

This was a truly adorable story with a magical twist on Arthur, Guinevere, and the rest of the popular King Arthur legends we have grown up loving. Guinevere discovers she inherits her mother's Druid powers. She's brave, independent, stubborn but all around lovable.
This is a true romantic adventure, and I cannot wait to read what's left in the series!
