Love the whole lounge feel.
Absolutely something for everybody!
The soundtrack from the first series of the Breaking Bad spin-off is a delight. The 13 tracks perfectly capture the laid-back atmosphere, dark plots and idiosyncratic characters in this hugely enjoyable show. There's some gorgeous stuff here, accompanied by illuminative sleeve-notes from series music supervisor Thomas Golubic detailing why he chose each tune for its particular scene or sequence. Much of the music is from the 50s and 60s, including seasoned soundtrack staples such as Mancini's 'Banzai Pipeline' and the Anton Karas 'Third Man' theme, both of which have cropped up in multiple movie and TV soundtracks over the years. There are just a couple of weak moments on the CD and those are the songs specifically associated with the show - Little Barrie's opening credits music, only the first few bars of which are heard on the TV (thankfully, seeing as the rest of the song is rather naff) and the slightly crass title track [10] by Junior Brown. The HIGHLIGHTS are [2], [6], [8], [13] and my own personal favorite [3] - from the sequence in episode 3 when Jimmy is with the girl at the bar. Track [9] is a long overblown version of 'Season of The Witch' - OK but not as good as Donovan's trippy psychedelic original.
Just one complaint: Why is the CD so short? Surely they could have fitted in a few more tracks. There was some other superb music in the show which didn't make it on to the soundtrack, most notably the brilliant 'Tune Down' by Chris Joss, from the long sequence in episode 7 when Mike breaks into the Kettleman's house to retrieve the stolen dosh.
'Better Call Saul' was a genuinely original and outstanding production - the kind which sadly can no longer be made/commissioned by the threadbare drama departments at the BBC here in the UK but which the US cable giants (and Netflix) now monopolize thanks to their access to huge budgets, brilliant actors, the top producers and best scriptwriters like Vince Gilligan.
All told, despite it's brevity this is a seductive and calming lounge CD to play in the car when you are stewing in a traffic jam - or perhaps to relax to, with a glass of wine at the end of the day.

Vendor was decent about it, but I was impatient.
