I was so delighted to discover this song last year. I've always liked the original version by the Goo Goo Dolls but it contains a couple lines that bother me which has stopped me from adding it to my collection. How very thrilled I was to find that Matt Bouwer's cover has made some minor changes to the lyrics to make it more appropriate for Christian beliefs!

The changes from the original are these:
Original: "one poor child who saved this world/and there's 10 million more who probably could/if we all just stopped and said a prayer for them"
Matt Brouwer cover: "one poor child who saved this world/and there's 10 million more who fight to live/could we all just stop and say a prayer for them"
Original line in chorus: "so take these words and sing out loud/cuz everyone is forgiven now"
Matt Brouwer cover: "so take these words and sing out loud/can everyone be forgiven now?"

The music, style, and timing of this cover are very similar to the original version, though overall it's slightly more soothing and less rock. While I still like the sound of the original (though I don't often hear it since I won't purchase it), the more I listen to Matt Brouwer's cover the more I'm starting to think that I actually do like his version best. The slightly more soothing style is perfect for Christmas, which is ultimately what the song is about when you listen to all the words.
