A new beginning.
Turning a leaf.
All that crap.
After her divorce and the death of one of her patients, an ER nurse, Kelly Newland, searches for a fresh start in the little town of Churchston, unaware that trouble and danger have followed her. As she learns to accept her failures in life, she befriends some of the locals, except for one disgruntled man, the hero everybody loves to hate.
He could feel their stares on his back, their judgments hovering over their heads.
Will Parker suffers from PTSD, and as the black sheep of the sleepy lakeside community, he struggles to get back up on his feet. Initially, Kelly and Will mix like oil and water, but as a series of dangerous incidents strike the people closest to them, their antagonism turns from cool to hot. It is when they realize it is impossible to resist each other that a killer closes in on them, threatening the love they've dared to find. (Book Blurb by the author)
This book was fascinating but had a few inconsistencies and errors. I was confused about whether she is on a lake or a beach because there was a lot of flip-flopping back and forth on this. I felt the nursing angle was good except the amount of technical jargon was a bit of a put off even though I am aware this is Kelly's personality.
This being said I loved Will and Kelly's love story. The conflicts posed are believable in an unbelievable kind of way. The mystery woman kept me interested until she was discovered and the final garage scene was written wonderfully.
Will’s character was so tortured that the reader can see why Kelly would feel the need to fix his pain, especially after suffering so much of her own. Kelly’s attitude made me want to hug her one minute to ease a little of her pain then yell at her the next to get out of her wallowing and get on with her life.
I loved the supporting characters. Randy, Clay, and Heather were those friends anyone would be blessed to have. Eric was the police officer that gives all police officer a bad name and is definitely the character you can’t wait to see get what’s coming to him. The mystery girl’s character was extremely confusing at times, especially with her description of steals and the way she seemed to be inserted into the story at odd times. I was able to narrow down who she was but did not get it right until she was exposed to the reader.
With a little clean up and polishing, this could be an excellent story.

Yes, Kelly moves to this lovely little town and tries to start over and forget about the past. There is some tension with this guy, Will who is not so bad. But somehow people around here have strange accidents. At the same time, we read the POV of a really strange woman who is after Kelly and we do not know why.
Overall, the mystery is really good. You keep turning the pages trying to guess what's going to happen. The writing is really good. And the characters are great. There were some sex scenes which I thought were also a good addition.

And there is, it's fair to say, a lot going on in this tale. But it never felt overly messy or complicated, and it was easy enough to follow the twists of the plot. The different narrative voices helped with that, and worked well in the context of the story.
The main characters were, on the whole, likeable and it didn't matter to me that I had twigged the ultimate reveal, because the intricacies of the build up made it worth it.
A thoroughly enjoyable, quick read.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book.
After suffering from emotional as well as professional blows, Kelly Newland leaves her hometown of Atlanta and ends up in the small town of Churchston. At first, her plans are to head to Myrtle Beach, but after befriending several locals, she decides to stay. She believes that she is making a fresh start for herself unaware of the danger that has followed her.
Will Parker is hated by most of his community. After losing his brother and best friend in the war, he suffers from PTSD and pretty much keeps to himself. When he first encounters Kelly lets just say it is definitely not love at first sight. However, as they get to know one another, they find it impossible to resist their mutual attraction. Just as they begin to work through their issues and learn to trust one another, chaos ensues threatening to ruin everything that they have worked so hard to build.
Okay, I have to admit that this book was not one of my favorites. One of the main characters referred to many secondary characters as numbers, and most of the time I couldn't figure out just who she was referring to. This same character described these characters as "steals" and I had no idea what a "steal" was. About 95% into the story, this information was finally clarified but for me it was a little too late as I had spent the majority of the book frustrated and confused. While there are not many reviews posted for this book yet, the ones that are posted are five star reviews so maybe it is just me. You will just have to read the other reviews and decide for yourself if this might be a book that you would enjoy.
