For couples who have been married for more than a few years, marriage can begin to feel mundane. Much of the time, husbands and wives sense that they are doing nothing more than going through the motions of married life. There is a far more satisfying way, however. For Better, for Worse, for God is a marriage enrichment program with a difference. It is grounded in the deepest spiritual truths about married life—that God is profoundly present in marriage and waiting to be embraced, that the committed love of husband and wife brings God’s love to the world, and that the Holy Spirit actively guides couples seeking to enrich their life together.
These Catholic Christian beliefs about marriage are the basis for Mary Jo Pedersen’s accessible, realistic, and inspiring exploration of married life. Throughout For Better, for Worse, for God, Pedersen shows couples how mutual reflection on their everyday experiences in light of these truths leads to practical steps they can take to deepen their love and commitment to each other and to God.
Some of these practical steps include better communication and conflict resolution, an approach to praying as a couple and experiencing spirituality together, a refreshing view of sexuality, and an invitation to a renewed sense of mission as husband and wife. All of the practices in this book stem from the premise that married life can be so much more than routine when we invite God to be at the very center of our lives together.

Make your marriage happier,
healthier, and holier.
For couples who have been married for more than a few years, daily obligations and packed schedules can cause husbands and wives to sense that they are doing little more than going through the motions of married life. Much attention is focused on caring for children, houses, and checkbooks, but what about caring for the marriage?
In this highly accessible and realistic book, marriage-retreat leader Mary Jo Pedersen guides couples through a marriage “check-up” that combines the latest social science research on healthy marriage with the wisdom of the Christian tradition. Throughout For Better, for Worse, for God, Pedersen offers practical steps couples can take to enrich their marriage, such as better communication and conflict resolution; an approach to praying together and experiencing spirituality as a couple; a refreshing view of sexuality; and an invitation to a renewed sense of mission as husband and wife.
By engaging couples in a conversation about how faith influences and transforms the experience of married life, Pedersen ultimately shows that marriage is a call from God and that God’s continuous presence and grace make it possible to face the ups and downs of life together.

who is thinking about getting married should read this book.
does not cut any corners. A MUST READ!!!
Couples came who have not attended any other marriage education or enrichment events in our parish. Young couples, older couples, sponsor couples, those with children and some without. One couple from an adjoining diocese drove over an hour to get here; another couple, young and has no married friends, a single gal, whose significant other is in Austin came as part of her discernment process; another older couple who just visited their granddaughter in a home for abused and challenged children said they just needed a "boost"... The list goes on...
Everyone jumped in with both feet right away -- shared, laughed, cried a little and can't wait to come back next week!
It was a graced-filled and joy-filled evening!

Mary Jo does a great job of writing a well rounded, down to earth, easy to understand and use book on the holy mystery and sacrament of marriage. I highly recommend the book to all. I gave it as a thank you gift to couples I know who work in marriage preparation programs. It was a great way to say THANK YOU to them and also bless them with an outstanding resource to enrich their own marriage. I also plan on giving copies to my nephews and their wives!
