Great workmanship, poor idea.

First off, the product is well executed and packaged. The brew pours into a cup without dripping. The glass part is protected by the plastic outer shell - so far, so good. However the bad part is rooted in the idea of combining a French press and a travel mug in one device. As a result, during the brewing stage, unlike in traditional French press, the cap has to be left off, lending the brew to cool by evaporation through the mesh of the plunger. My coffee to comes out noticeably colder than from a traditional unit. Instructions suggest adding creamer to the bottle and the sediment was pushed down by the plunger - but I am wondering how to stir it? And how to stir in the sugar? It is hardly possible with the plunger in - so the whole idea of a travel mug goes out of the window here. And speaking of that plunger, the designers apparently got overzealous about not letting any sediment through it and installed a rubber gasket on it. The whole idea of the French press is for the brew to be in contact with just glass and metal - not with some rubber, however the vendor convinces us that it is safe. That same rubber seal is pretty tight and inserting the plunger into the unit filled with hot water may easily result in a splash, exactly like one of the users reported here. It happened to me too, though it was just water I used to rinse the unit, but I can clearly see how an unsuspected user can get scalded. Finally, the idea of the unit to double as a travel mug results in the need for a plunger rod holder, which is made of plastic with unknown food safety rating - the brew comes in contact with it. Al that was enough for me to return the unit for a refund.

Good concept but hard to use - not worth it

This product does not behave like a traditional french press. The plunger cannot be pushed straight down from the top. It's just doesn't fit. It's strange. But you have to go in sideways for about an inch below the top. Otherwise, you will have an explosion of hot water and coffee. See picture. Literally, if you push the plunger from the top, it takes extreme force that then causes the explosion. Ok, so once you figure that out, next comes the issue with the lid. I'm pretty sure that's why people are complaining that it leaks because the lid is near impossible to get on. The thread around the rim is pretty cheaply done. But what makes it more difficult is that the plunger sticks out the top so in order for the lid to even grab onto the thread you have to push very hard and spin at the same time. You almost have to be a professional athlete with extreme coordination and patience to get this on correctly. Now that leads to the next issue ... because you have to push the tip of the plunger down so hard while trying to get the lid on it, it forces the coffee grinds of the bottom to be pushed so hard that when it comes time to wash you have to scrape them out with a knife! No joke it's like scraping cement off the bottom of your cup.

As for the temperature of the coffee, I'm not that impressed. Although I'm sure double insulated walls sound impressive the coffee is lukewarm within an hour.

Lastly unfortunately yet another complaint. It's just not enough coffee. It makes just below 1 cup.

Good luck. I'm returning mine. There are just too many other brands out there that have a much higher rating that I can purchase.

This coffee brewer works well and has a lovely, sleek design. The plunger stays enclosed in the cup, allowing the lid to fully close. The lid opens up a full 180 degrees for easy sipping. The ONLY thing I dislike is that even though this is a double walled tumbler, the co tents, hot coffee, only stayed hot for about 90 minutes. This is coffee from a Kureg, coffee or tea made with boiling water might stay hotter longer. Plunger disassembles for complete, deep cleaning.

I am trying to be a little more conscientious of my chooses so when my Keurig broke I knew I wanted to get a french press replacement but I wasn't sure how to handle in the mornings going to work. This was perfect! I get the water on the kettle boiling while I walk my dog, come back and add the grounds and water to this cup, then head out the door. It brews during my drive and when I get to work I add my sweetener and milk! So perfect and I love it! It is durable, insulated so my coffee stays warm while not burning my hands, and overall I think it is a great idea and a great purchase!

Just what I wanted

This is just what I wanted. I'm a night shift cardiac/neuro ICU RN and our unit's coffee is a far cry from delicious.

This Betterbrew press is perfect for use on unit. I can make my favorite roast in just a few minutes. This presss is easy to clean and stores in my locker nicely.

Keep in mind, this is not necessarily the best travel press. It is insulated just enough to keep from burning your hands and keeps coffee warm enough to drink in a normal setting. If you're looking for a real commuter or travel press, I would perhaps choose something a bit more substantial.

The Betterbrew is perfect for the hospital or office setting. I would definitely but it again.

This is a nice single-serving coffee press. It is easy to care for and clean, and of course it’s a French press so there is not much muss or effort to use.

It was rather leakproof, too, until recently.

The cylinder is quite strong. I dropped it off of a standing desk and it bounced off of a bench and the leg of a drafting chair without shattering. The lid, however... one of the hinge pins snapped. It still makes a good cup of coffee, still holds temperature well, but i have to keep popping the lid down and it falls off sometimes.

I’ll probably buy another before I start traveling after this crazy 2020 Covid-19 year.

I went for this as I thought the concept seemed okay and the video gave me some reassurances. However, there are some design flaws to be aware of. 1) if you like a stronger coffee from a decent coffee company, say 4 heaped scoops, forget getting the lid back on. The volume of granules prevents the plunger going down far enough. So, either get a strong coffee grain in the first place - only one, maybe two scoops or just use it as a cafetiere. 2) the plunger does not go in straight. Getting it in at an angle is the only way. However - CAUTION - too much force/too quickly and your coffee will splash out onto you, possibly scalding you!! I guess you could avoid that by putting the plunger in before the water and then trying to get the water in - but not too quickly. 3) cleaning - because of the narrow lip, cleaning is tiresome. You’ll need a long spoon (plasticwooden probably to avoid scratches).
Would I recommend this product? - erm, no, I’m sorry to say.

So glad I got this, well made and has been used multiple times per day since purchase and it does not feel like it's going to fall apart any time soon. Cleaning is super easy since you just rinse the press and the cup under water and it's good to go.

It holds just under 400ml of water if you fill it to the max fill line. First time I used it I put way too much ground coffee in it and I could not get it to press all the way down so the top would not screw on, this has not happened again and I have found a heaped tbsp of coffee works best for me and allows the press to go all the way down (it could fit a little more). You need to insert the press at a slight angle which is easy to figure out and the cup keeps coffee hot for a good amount of time and the lid is very secure, there is definitely an air tight seal as when you pop the lid open after a while you get a little hiss as a small amount of pressure releases.

I mainly use this in the house as i got this instead of a one cup french press since it was similar in price.

I can't recommend this enough.

Is great when you don't travel

Never mind travel, I use this all the time at home, keeps my brew warm and I don't put hot water in it to warm it up before use and its easy to clean. The filter lies flush with the sides so when filling, pull the plunger/filter to force air into the coffee now and again and this makes removing it easier when your coffee is ready, I think it can cause an air lock and removing it with an airlock is like pulling a traffic light out of concrete.

I like to let it steep for about 5 minutes under a tea cosy. I''m very pleased with this Betterbrew Travel French Press, and I consider this a great purchase, despite the price!

Really happy with my Betterbrew. It has streamlined my morning routine as I can now perform all of my coffee-making/drinking routines using just one product without having to switch over to a flask and create unnecessary washing up for myself - what a win! While I've only had the product for a couple of weeks now, I must say it feels sturdy and I'd expect it to last a while as the product still looks brand new!

No idea why I did not buy this sooner. It elevated the quality of my coffee and tea to another level. For the last 2 years I have been using a pour over coffee maker that had a metal filter. It worked fine, but it became annoying to use. Using this French Press made me realise that I could have made premium coffee all this time if I had this.

The fact that it's portable it's a huge plus. Also love the design and colours.
