I have two goals for Betting on MMA. The first and primary goal is to make you money. This book will teach you the proper way to think about handicapping and betting on fights, and it will give you the tools to better predict fight outcomes. If you do not make more money betting on MMA after reading this book than you did before reading this book, then I have failed. The second goal is to present this material in an efficient and lucid fashion. Clarity is the aim of my writing style. Rothman's Methods are a Safe Bet

`I have been an avid mma fan for the better part of 20 years. I have read multitudes of titles involving the history of the sport and fighter biographies. This is the first title I have come across that actually addresses strategic betting on mma fights. Early on when fighters were one dimensional, it was easier to pick winners. Nowadays, fighters are all extremely well rounded, and Rothman's formula for comparing/contrasting personal odds with the Vegas line,(handicapping) while incorporating hype and public opinion is genius. He is not suggesting one look into a crystal ball to select their fighters to bet their money on. He is mapping out how to exercise selectivity and differentiate via all the intangibles that go into the saying, "styles make fights." Rothman actually takes this further and mentions many intangibles than only the most devout mma fans ever consider.

As a fellow poker player, I hope to see more work from Rothman about how a bettor could build a bankroll based on mma betting. What's funny is the book is highly readable and actually follows a format similar to better poker strategists/authors works I have read. Rothman sites example of his theory at work, the way Brunson or Helmuth recall how they played a hand or strategized for a poker tournament field based on the players, pot size, position, etc... If you enjoy those types of reads, you'll love Rothman's book.

I also do wish he had made mention of web sites that offer wagers to potential readers/bettors. All of the scouting, calculating risk vs reward, etc are mentioned in the book. Rothaman even educates the layman as to how "the vig" and betting systems work to always make the house money. He stresses relentlessly that your opponent is the guy betting on the other side and not the house. The only problem is that some readers may not know where to go to put the theories to practice. Perhaps this piece, along with bank building, can come in a future work.

An outstanding read that will leave you scratching your head and eager to seek the next fight with a more skilled fighter vs a more hyped fighter...or as Rothman puts it...."BIG GAME HUNTING".
Outstanding first work, and this reader is hoping for more!

If you want to make money betting on MMA, read this book

This is the first book review that I have ever written on Amazon. I must say, I wanted to read this book from the moment I found out about it. I have been a fan of MMA for many years and only recently tried my hand at gambling on MMA. The results have been mixed to say the least.

After reading this book, I learned that there is much more to gambling than just picking fights correctly. Jason Rothman uses a simple approach which blends value investing (the investing style that Warren Buffett used to make his fortune) and a "paths to victory" form of analyzing fights. Rothman explains his methods in depth and provides case studies of past fights to prove the effectiveness of his approach.

The book is a very quick read. I read the entire book in about a total of 2 hours, and only because I had a few interruptions. In addition to this book, Rothman has a website that is packed with information and helpful tips (bettingonmmabook.com). If you love MMA and want to make money, do your self a favor and buy this book. Do it today!

I've read the book and I think Rothmans system gets broken down for the reader well. Experienced betters shouldn't have a problem following the system. My only complaint would be that its a little confusing for a rookie like me that is not too familiar with odds making. Rothman explains in his book that its for people that already understand odds and odds making so it's not a surprise that I may have to read it a few times. It's a book that may need multiple reads for a person like me who is a novice when it comes to odds. But that's not a good enough to take a star away from the rating for my own ignorance. Maybe the next book could include the odds and odds making process.

It was a decent and quick read, Rothman does a good job analyzing fights but in my opinion I believe their are holes to his "paths to victory" approach. This is further cemented by the fact that Rothman cannot back up his betting approach with revenue numbers. What's weird is that he releases sales figures for his book and website on his blog, but can't back up his bets with numbers. He quotes Warren Buffet a lot in his book, but we know he's a billionaire. Would you take investment advice from me if you didn't know how much I made? Same concept applies here with Rothman.

What I also find strange is that numerous "5 star" reviews come from people who have only written one review, and he recently tested selling this book at $40 (ridiculous) when I bought it for $12. To me it all feels like affiliate marketer salesman type of stuff that I was duped into buying.

If you wager on MMA, especially UFC, then you should read this book. Even if you do not adopt the general system, this book teaches you how to properly break down a fight and gives some good betting angles. It is a very quick read, so definitely worth you time. The case studies showed what a true fight breakdown should look like.

Fairly basic information between these pages but there's not much written on the sport regarding handicapping so it is a step in the right direction. Would have liked to see empirically how differing styles tend to do against one another as opposed to the authors determination of who may or may not win regarding fight styles. This is an easy read with nothing mathematical to concern yourself with, thats a minus with me but perhaps a plus for others.

The book on its own is decent. The betting advice is sound, even though there is no deep analysis of EV in it. It is a good introduction to concepts involved in profiling players to bet MMA for value. Unfortunately for the authors, Fightnomics was also released. Although Fightnomics does not focus on gambling, it provides a more comprehensive and detailed analysis of factors that determine which fighter is likely to win, and made Betting on MMA obsolete.

This book was a really poor read in my opinion. The author pays homage to his hero on nearly every page,( a money making entrepreneur, who this author wishes to emulate). This book covers basic betting knowledge that any MMA fan worth his salt would look out for in real or fantasy bets. A really disappointing book that is simply a case of repeat, repeat, repeat, chapter after chapter. Surely it is common knowledge in the MMA world to look for a fighter who has more ways to win on his record, ie if a fighter can win via submission, KO and UD, against a fighter who only wins via one of those methods, then the author recommends we take the more rounded fighter as our bet,as he has 3 ways of winning to his opponents one, really ?? save your money folks and go on sites like mmaplayground or Bloody elbow for your "inside"guide, they are after all free and not a waste of money

This book is a must read for anyone interested in MMA betting. I've been following and predicting MMA fights for over 10 years but only recently thought about the possibility of placing bets. Rothman's book lays out a crystal clear system to follow. It's a very short read, probably 2-3 hours and does contain a lot of repetition but I believe that anything that's important is definitely worth repeating a few times.
