Directions

Traditional Oven Directions (Bakes Up Golden Brown): You Will Need: 2 cups boiling water (use boiling water for best potato texture and sauce appearance), 2/3 cup milk, 1 tablespoon margarine or butter softened. 1. Heat oven to 450 degrees. Stir potatoes, sauce mix, boiling water, milk and margarine in ungreased 1-1/2 quart casserole. 2. Bake uncovered about 20 minutes or until top is golden brown (if you'd like the top more golden brown, bake 5 minutes longer [potatoes will be softer]) and potatoes are tender. Remove from oven (sauce will thicken as it stands). Two-Package Oven Directions: Make 2 packages potatoes as directed in Oven Directions - except use 3-quart casserole, 4 cups boiling water, 1-1/3 cups milk and 2 tablespoons margarine or butter, softened. Bake uncovered about 25 minutes. Low-Fat Directions: Use fat-free (skim) milk, and omit margarine. As prepared, one serving provides 100 calories (10 calories from fat), 1 g fat (0 g saturated), 0 mg cholesterol and 610 mg sodium. Stove-Top Directions (Ready in 10 Minutes): 1. Heat potatoes, sauce mix, 2 cups hot water, 2/3 cup milk and 1 tablespoon margarine or butter to boiling in 2-quart saucepan over high heat, stirring occasionally. 2. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until potatoes are tender and sauce is as thick as you'd like (sauce will also thicken slightly as it stands). Microwave Directions: Important: Because microwaves cook differently, time is approximate. 1 Stir potatoes, sauce mix, 2-1/2 cups hot water, 2/3 cup milk and 1 tablespoon margarine or butter, softened, in 2-quart round microwavable casserole or bowl. 2. Microwave uncovered on High 11 to 16 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, just until tender (potatoes will continue to soften and sauce will thicken as they stand). Dish will be hot. High Altitude (3500 - 6500 ft): Oven: For 1 package, no changes. For 2 packages, increase bake time to about 35 min. Stove-Top: No changes. Microwave: No changes.
