I bought this TOUGH LOVE one to use for HAIR CONDITIONING MASKS. I have it on my head with a treatment as I type. It's snug on my head, but that is the purpose of a shower cap... to keep the oils/conditioner in your HAIR inside the CAP. They have to be snug so the water doesn't leak in when you are using it while taking a shower. I have hair down to my waist almost and it fits perfect in this TOUGH LOVE cap with room to spare. I also do not have a small head so yes the caps elastic part is quite snug, but I rather it too snug as opposed to too big. I had to throw away my old shower cap because it would move everywhere because the elastic was not snug.
I also bought the SASSY STRIPES (zebra) one last year and the one I've been using all year and it's also just perfect. The material on the SASSY STRIPES is a bit thicker. The TOUGH LOVE one is a thinner material and larger with a bit more room on the top of your head, meaning more hair fits in the TOUGH LOVE one and it's also a see through cap... not clear, just see through. The Sassy Stripes Zebra one is not see through at all... it has worked perfect for me for a year, my hair has never been any drier, that has been the best shower cap I have ever bought to use in the shower.... The Tough Love one will work perfect for my hair masks and would probably work just as well in the shower because it's nice and snug.
That's all... they are very inexpensive and I am glad I bought them both.
>>>>>> Update 12/20/12 regarding the TOUGH LOVE Shower Cap.... All the ink has come off. All the designs on the cap are gone. I use this cap for "OILING" I use Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil and other oils on my hair for a deep mask once a week. I leave it on about 4-8 hours using this cap. I guess the oils were too much for the ink as they rubbed off. I also don't know if the ink would have come off if just using in the shower with water and not oil. Just wanted to post this update. Still don't regret buying it, it's just a see through plain cap now. The Zebra Stripes one I use in the shower all the time, with just water running to keep my hair from getting wet and it's perfect, all the stripes are intact. The 2 shower caps as mentioned are different materials so maybe that's why. I still like them both :)
I got tired of the shower caps I purchased at the grocery store not keeping my hair dry, so this is my second Betty Dain Shower Cap. The cap is a good weight; the plastic is thicker than shower caps that were grocery store purchases. I would call this a medium-sized cap; my chin length hair fits comfortable into the cap without undo fuss or bother. It does not droop down into my eyes as did the Conair shower cap that it replaced. If I use a sweat band to lift my bands and the hair at the neckline, it keeps my hair completely dry. I think individuals with very thick or very long hair might be challenged to get all their hair into the cap or to have their hair stay completely dry.
The elastic is not as wide as I had hoped it would be; in fact, it is more like an elastic thread. By my measurement, it is about .1 cm wide. I use a shower cap about every other day; my last Betty Dain lasted six months before it became a bit looser fitting than I like. However, I am still able to use it as a travel shower cap and just be sure my hair is tucked into a sweat band. My hair is a bit damp on the ends, but it takes only a few minutes for it to dry and my chin-length hair retains its shape. The design of the cap is fun - very colorful and whimsical.
The price is reasonable. Even though I purchase two per year, the total annual cost is not prohibitive.
It is because of the cap's size and the width of the cap's elastic that I rated it as a four-star purchase. Its relatively short use-life also factored into my rating.
PROS: The elastic is very stretchable (stretches comfortably without losing shape). The cap is plenty roomy. Will likely fit 90% of users. Only those with super long/monstrously thick hair will likely have problems. The material itself is very durable. Does what it says ... keeps water out. :)
CONS: Pattern fades and rubs off after only a few uses.
Like another reviewer said, the ink rubs off of the cap and leaves black marks on your hands. After only four uses, the ink started rubbing off at an increasing rate. After 8 uses, the pattern on my cap is half gone! I am amazed because the cap in general is incredibly sturdy and keeps all of my hair dry (hence 3 stars). However, I think that if a company is going to offer a product in various patterns, they should create the pattern in such a way so that it is as durable as the cap. I'm really amazed at how easily the shower cap pattern has faded and literally rubbed off onto my hands.
CONCLUSION:
All in all, this was a decent buy for the price. I got mine on sale for $4.95 with free super saver shipping. But, I would not repurchase. What's the point of buying a shower cap with a pattern if it fades/rubs off after only a few uses?
I purchase this shower cap for the purpose of protecting my hair in the shower from the hot water. I just colored my hair from blonde to dark brown and was trying to preserve the color. I bought this shower cap because it was cute and it seemed like a good price.
It did what it was supposed to do: it kept my hair protected from the hot water after I washed it, and on the days that I just wanted it to stay dry it accomplished that, too. I was a little concerned that it would be too big for me. I wear an extra small in adult hat sizes and helmets, but the fit was great.
The only complaint I have with this shower cap is that the design rubbed off after a month. What is the point of selling a cute design on a shower cap if it washes off in the shower? Defeats the purpose, doesn't it? So now instead of a super cute shower cap I have a plain white one, which isn't nearly as fun. But like I said, it keeps my hair dry, so it's mostly good.
It works fine; however I have had some issues (after a few months) with the elastic threads coming undone. I had to trim them off. Also the picture is fading. I just wanted a basic shower cap and this was the cheapest one I could find on amazon.ca. The basic one I had gotten at Walmart (for less) lasted well for over a year.
The elastic was a little tight seeming at first, but either it loosened up or I got used to it. I like that it fits tightly and doesn't come off. Also, there was plenty of room for my thick, long, hair.
I would probably not buy again, but I'm continuing to use it until it falls apart.
Just received this today together with another item I purchased 3 days ago (including the weekend). Arrived earlier than expected! Anyway, this is how I like a shower cap to be, huge space inside since I always put my hair in a bun and held by a hair clamp, to be able to easily insert my hair in the shower cap. Other shower caps are not just huge or big enough to accomodate my hair and my hair clamp. This shower cap is exactly what I needed! Good product! Will repurchase when needed or if this breaks down.
My daughters and myself wear shower caps and this is the best one I've tried. The print is really cool and the quality is great. I'm quite impressed with the elastic it keeps all the little fly away hairs from getting wet without being tight or uncomfortable. I'm going to purchase others for my daughters once they decide on a print. Would recommend this shower cap!
Pretty good shower cap. A little snug around the band for the hairline but its a good thing, keeps hair in and water out. Used it a couple of times and I'm pleased it has room for my longer thicker hair. I'll try and update this review later to comment on how long it lasts but as of now I am happy with the purchase.
the size is great, love that part. however the stitching on the inside is really rough and itchy, also the print started wearing off and would get black on my hands when I put it on, when I took it off wet and hung it up it would drip black down the wall.
