The balance between good and evil is shifting and 18-year-old Cassidy Kavanaugh is drawn into the battle without having any idea why or how in Between the Bleeding Willows: The Demon Hunters Series, Volume 1 by D.A. Roach. Emotionally drained and confused after the tragic death of her long-time boyfriend, followed within weeks by that of her Gram, Cassidy is searching for answers. A good luck charm she had given Jace was not recovered from the car wreck, so Cassidy goes to the site of the crash to look for it. The search takes her to the abandoned cemetery, said to be haunted, where she does find the ring, but also so much more - she 'falls' through a gateway into the home of the Clan in the demon realm. This has never happened to a human before so the demon hunters, products of angelic and human blood, need to figure out why. This brings Cassidy in touch with her deceased boyfriend, Jace, who has been turned into a demon, and into the conflict between the demons and the hunters. Will she be able to help maintain good in the world or become a pawn in a dangerous conflict?

D.A. Roach has created an exciting paranormal adventure in Between the Bleeding Willows, Volume 1 of The Demon Hunters Series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story and appreciated the author's imagination and the development of the characters in their separate realms. Strong characters, an interesting conflict between different human and nonhuman factions, and intense action keep you turning the pages, anxious to see just how it all comes together. Follow Cassidy on her quest to discover just what role she plays in the major battle to come. Nicely done!

*A fan of the author won an auction for an honest review from me. I purchased this book on my own as it was already on my wish list, so take it as you like*

It only took me a few hours to read this. Why? Because I simply could NOT put it down! It's been a while since I got this sucked into a book. I liked the characters, I felt the flow and pace were good, and I got a new book boyfriend to boot! I really like the imagery she put out there of the different worlds and the way the tattoos and magic reacted in different situations, and I cannot WAIT for the next one. I've decided the lady who won the review and said this is what I was going to be reading should be my best friend now. Unless she wants Killian....

Bob says: 5 Platypires and another for my favorites of 2016 list!

I downloaded Between the Bleeding Willows as a free book from Amazon. A good story, but the writing was somewhat immature and the author used a tell, rather than show narrative style. I was never pulled into the heads of the protagonists, even though did enjoy the world Roach built for her characters. Much of the logic was loose, or non-existent, and some of the character reactions didn't seem realistic to me-- I found myself eye-rolling on more than one occasion. The story would be excellent with a stricter editor who could tighten up the redundancy issues and pare down a lot of the unnecessary verbiage. There's a lot of promise in the writing, but this one could use a bit more work.

Cassidy Ravanaugh has had a tough life. At only eighteen years of age, she has already lost her mother, boyfriend Jace, and grandmother. However, she discovers that Jace may not truly be gone. While searching for her ring which had been with Jace when he died, Cassidy stumbles through a gate to the unknown. It turns out to be the gate to the Demon Realm, and she meets Killian, head of the Demon hunters, preparing for battle. Neither understands how Cassidy was able to cross into his realm, but she and her ring are key parts of the battle for mankind’s survival.

This is the first book in the “Demon Hunters” series, and it is the author’s first paranormal tale. I have not read too many books pertaining to Demon Hunters, so I was a bit confused with some of the terminology. There were also some minor editing issues. However, neither of those stopped me from enjoying the story overall. It does not contain the typical happily-ever-after ending, but it does pave the way for a sequel. The story is told from two points of view, that of Cassidy and Killian. It is a struggle between good versus evil, and there is solid character growth in the strong heroine. Fans of books such as the “Mortal Instrument” series are likely to enjoy this book. The cover is a great complement to the story.

I was given an advanced reading copy in exchange for a honest review.

I have been doing a countdown for this book to release. I've read the synopsis and saw the teasers. The anticipation was going to kill me. I was given the opportunity to get my hands on a early copy and I had to sweep it up. I admired the cover because it is gorgeous. I can't get over the title. Between the Bleeding Willows. There is something special about willows trees for me. Since I was a little girl they always represented magic and reading. I couldn't wait to crack it up.

Once I cracked it open I got to met the main character Cassidy. The first paragraph got me hooked and I knew I was in for a adventure. The story was well paced and had twists and turns. The ending will leave you with a bit of cliffhanger which I think I have figured out. I was in love with her right away. I had tears in my eyes within the first few chapters. I instantly felt connected to her. She is a complex character and you get to enjoy the raw emotions she experiences. It will pull on strings. A little bit later we met Killian. Now for everyone out there he is my new book boyfriend and you can't have him. He is dark, mysterious, and thoughtful demon hunter. He makes the perfect man for me. He is also a bit complex because he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. It was interesting to get his point of view and Cassidy as well. I loved all the secondary characters with Casper being my favorite because of his love for books. Now my favorite moment was when Cassidy kissed Casper. It was hilarious and well planned.

Overall I fell in love with the series and plan on reading every book that comes out. It is written by a author who is a master storyteller. If you enjoy magic, love, heart break, courage, selflessness, tenderness and unforgettable characters then I would recommend this book for you.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book and found it difficult to put it down after reaching a point where the action picked up. When I reached 75%, I was afraid to read it on my lunch break as I had been doing because I was afraid I would get to a point that I just couldn’t stop reading.

The book started out a little slow for me and I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to give the book a good review. But then we’re introduced to the demon/demon hunter world and it got real interesting. I haven’t read many demon hunter books and was confused about some of the terminology used in the story and had to google it. Surprisingly enough there appears to be a lot of information in the world wide web about hunting demons.

The main female character Cassidy really seemed to grow throughout the book. At the start of the book I had the impression that she was a meek and shy girl. But as the book goes on she seemed capable of kicking some ass! I'm really looking forward to seeing what she learns to do with her newfound abilities and connection to the demon hunter world.

I enjoyed the struggling relationship between Cassidy and Killian, but was a bit disappointed we didn’t get to see them connect more. But I guess maybe there was more of a focus on the demon hunting. I was disappointed to see the bond between the two removed and actually a bit surprised to see that it could be done. I hope the bond is introduced again. I’d like to see how it could affect the two characters.

I was disappointed that the book ended without resolutions to several things and without a happy period ending. I know things need to be unresolved to continue the series into multiple books. I just wish there could have been a way to end the book on a break between bad things of sorts where people are happy and things are looking up.

I hope I don’t have to wait too long to read book 2!
