The balance between good and evil is shifting and 18-year-old Cassidy Kavanaugh is drawn into the battle without having any idea why or how in Between the Bleeding Willows: The Demon Hunters Series, Volume 1 by D.A. Roach. Emotionally drained and confused after the tragic death of her long-time boyfriend, followed within weeks by that of her Gram, Cassidy is searching for answers. A good luck charm she had given Jace was not recovered from the car wreck, so Cassidy goes to the site of the crash to look for it. The search takes her to the abandoned cemetery, said to be haunted, where she does find the ring, but also so much more - she 'falls' through a gateway into the home of the Clan in the demon realm. This has never happened to a human before so the demon hunters, products of angelic and human blood, need to figure out why. This brings Cassidy in touch with her deceased boyfriend, Jace, who has been turned into a demon, and into the conflict between the demons and the hunters. Will she be able to help maintain good in the world or become a pawn in a dangerous conflict?
D.A. Roach has created an exciting paranormal adventure in Between the Bleeding Willows, Volume 1 of The Demon Hunters Series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story and appreciated the author's imagination and the development of the characters in their separate realms. Strong characters, an interesting conflict between different human and nonhuman factions, and intense action keep you turning the pages, anxious to see just how it all comes together. Follow Cassidy on her quest to discover just what role she plays in the major battle to come. Nicely done!

Between the Bleeding Willows by D.A. Roach is book one in her The Demon Hunters series. I am an avid fan of paranormal novels, so I was curious to see where this story was going to go. Cassidy is an interesting character. She’s been through a lot in her young life. Overall, I feel that this story flows pretty well. The story focuses mostly on Cassidy starting from after/around the time that her grandmother passes away. While she is looking for the ring that belonged to her mother, she is pulled into another realm. She learns about demons and demon-hunters. The story shifts to following Killian and what he experiences. Killian is a strong character and an overall good leader. He puts the needs of the Clan before his desires for Cassidy, which I like. He’s attracted to Cassidy but he doesn’t let that rule his actions.
I’m glad to say that this book is professionally edited and that I found few to no errors throughout. I like this story overall, and it was a page turner, but I just felt it was a bit bland in spots. We as the readers will see that there is something special about Cassidy, but I’m disappointed that there is no realization of this with the characters in the story. I was hoping that there would be an older character who would recognize something special about Cassidy and point it out to the others, but that is never the case. There also some odd situations that occur that also don’t make sense. I’m hoping that they will be explained in the next book.
All in all, I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a good story, but there are spots of where I really feel that it has a lot of potentials to be more, but the author holds back. The story is engaging but I want more exciting moments that will truly draw the reader in and leave them wanting more. The story doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, so for those who hate cliffhangers, there is no need to worry. For those who like demon hunter novels, this is a good book to read.
Cassidy is all alone, her Mom died giving birth to her, her boyfriend died in an car accident and her Gram passed just recently from a heart attack. She has no idea who her father is, just that he gave her Mother a special ring to show his love just before he left her.
One day Cassidy went to an old abandoned cemetery to see if she can see her boyfriend. She did and chased after him and ended up falling into a very deep hole, that seemed to go on forever. When she woke, days later, she was not in Kansas any more. She healed from a guys tattoo and was now bonded to him.
As she got to know the clan and how they lived, she didn't want to leave. But the head of the clan told her that it wasn't safe for her there, that there was something big coming. Cassidy wanted to learn to fight and stand with the clan. She ended up back at home.
There is so much more to this story. You have a demon queen, a human (?) indebted to her and tries to use Cassidy as payoff. His son bonds with Cassidy to save her life and her other bond breaks. Things go terribly wrong and then before you know it you hit "to be continued". Trust me you are going to want book 2 asap!
If book 2 is anything like this one, I won't be able to put it down either. D. A. Roach has an fantastic story line going here and it makes you want more. Her writing is steady and she keeps you glued to the book. This a must read to add to your to be read list.
Re-Read Review 5-1-2018
I just love this book! First page sucked me in, but the next page sounded familiar and the next and the next. I went to my reviews on Goodreads and sure enough, a few years back I read and reviewed this book. I like it so much, that I read it again. Still as exciting and mysterious as the first time and knowing the next part to come, made it even more exciting.
Cassidy, a human, lost to grief finds herself falling and landing in a bed in a medical ward she has never seen before. Killian is the clan leader and by giving his blood, saved her life. Then one day she was extremely sick, on the verge of death and a friend helps her by giving his blood to her. Now she has demon hunter blood, some kind of witch or demon blood and her own. This mixture could only bring trouble and boy it did.
Full of surprises, Magic, action, paranormal, suspense and a hint of romance, this book gives you the works and doesn’t disappoint you in any way. Now I have to read book 2 again!
