About the Author
Kelly Bowen grew up in Manitoba, Canada. She attended the University of Manitoba and earned a Master of Science degree in veterinary physiology and endocrinology.
But it was Kelly's infatuation with history and a weakness for a good love story that led her down the path of historical romance. When she is not writing, she seizes every opportunity to explore ruins and battlefields.
Currently, Kelly lives in Winnipeg with her husband and two boys, all of whom are wonderfully patient with the writing process. Except, that is, when they need a goalie for street hockey.

The only reasons why this book did not get a solid 5/5 is that it felt far too short, the ending far too rushed, and the dramatic build-up to who/why felt cliche and unimaginative (no "OMG, it was him the whole time!" reaction for me, simply a "huh. Odd." reaction). The villain having receipts of his crimes seemed pretty insipid and unbelievable. It left me feeling like the book was quickly written to meet a deadline, rather than a well done novel. On the upside, there wasn't a long, drawn-out "he/she doesn't want/love me!" page-filler like many other romance authors do (which make me pull my hair out in frustration). I loved the characters and how they are written/develop (love stories where a man finds a strong woman as his mental match are my favorite). Even with the issues I had with the book, I would still highly recommend reading ANY of Bowen's books as they are fantastically written and quite an entertaining read.
I truly hope to see a book about King falling in love next! Keep up the great work, Ms. Bowen! You have a great talent!
Generally, though, I'm delighted to have discovered Kelly Bowen, who writes about women in charge, not debutantes in distress. Looking forward to King's and Gil's stories. (Yes, please, Ms. Bowen, we need those, too.)
In this story we find Angelique at Alex’s club, playing cards and hoping to win to be able to pay the debts that she and her brothers are currently facing. She has three brothers, one of them holding the family’s title and a set of twin brothers that are currently in boarding school. The family is currently behind in the school’s tuition as well as trying to make ends meet. The winnings would help pay some of what is due and keep them afloat. But her brother is not helping, and instead drowning in alcohol and spending away what little they have left. He quickly finds himself framed for a murder that he did not commit.
After obtaining employment from Alex, by becoming one of his table dealers, Angelique seeks his assistance to help find who is behind the framing of her brother. They quickly start trying to start putting the pieces together that has led Angelique and her brothers to their current ruin. Lifting the veil behind the mysteries of why her farther slowly sold away their fortune to silence threats.
The dance that Alex and Angelique find themselves is absorbing. There is an undeniable sexual tension between these two, and a very strong attraction. I enjoyed seeing them come together and learning to trust each other with their secrets.
I was pretty surprised how the mystery was revealed in the end. I certainly did not see it coming was surprised to see a new story line to end a mystery. It was thoroughly a very enjoyable read!
