Matisse is hyper focused on making this year of college a success. Work, school, painting and applying for an internship leave no room for love.
Beau is reeling from a major toss up in life and isn't adjusting so well. Love isn't even on his radar.
Both are lost and trying to find themselves again and yet they will find they both desperately need each other!
This is definitely an emotional story. From the small daily angst of uncertainty in life and love to the major heart-break life can bring us, Beau and Matisse go through it all! I love the way this story was truly a roller coaster ride, up and down and up again, yet we aren't being thrown a bunch of petty bulls***. The emotion is so raw and real and the characters confusion comes through so authentically. The writing makes you feel as though you're thinking these things yourself instead of just standing on the outside. You get love, despair, pain, angst, confusion, betrayal, grief, loss, perseverance, strength... I can't think of enough words. There's plenty of dialogue and the interactions between the characters seem so true to life that these could be my classmates or friends. The secondary characters we meet are pretty great, I look forward to their stories in the future.
While this read was very emotional, it did not lack for steam! The sexual tension is off the charts and when we get to the real action... well, I definitely wouldn't read this in public ;). And, while very HOT, it is still emotional. The feelings come through in the sex, making it that much more authentic!
Over all, I loved this book, can't wait for the next couples story and will be adding Ms. Paula to my auto one-click authors!
I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good romance that takes a curvy road to get there!
This is a full length, stand alone romance with an HEA!
I really enjoyed reading the story from Matisse's viewpoint. She is strong. She begins to learn that she is willing to stray from the perfect path that everyone expects her to follow for her own dreams. She really takes a chance on Beau because she sees that there is that certain spark between them, one that she does find with anyone else. The author does a wonderful job of allowing the reader to get a full glimpse of Mati's fear as well as her bravery. My heart ached just reading about her struggle to find peace, with how many times she tried to run when things became too tough, but she still finds the courage to fight through.
Beau's character nagged at me a little. I understood what he endured in the past and what his current life still held; however, by feeling sorry for himself, he pushes everyone else away including those that he loves like his little sister and his parents. Will he find the strength to carry on for a life that he deserves or will he keep drowning in his own self-pity of the life that he was dealt?
I recommend this story because it was truly captivating. My emotions were thoroughly engaged and I was able to see everything with clarity in my mind. I would have to say, in my opinion, this book targets a female audience; however, everyone who enjoys romance should read it! I rate this story with four stars because I feel that some of the scenes went to extremes too quick, whereas others didn't quite match the pace. I enjoy her writing style and am thrilled to read the next in the series about Reagan!
I liked both of the characters and the story took a couple of turns I didn't expect, but completely loved. This book is really a book about finding your way and figuring out what path to take. There is also a major plot point that I won't give away, but that was so big and so well done it made this book feel like nothing I've ever read before.
The sexual chemistry between these two was palpable and the tension in the book was wonderfully crafted. Beau was a guy you kind of think is a jerk at the beginning but you quickly come to realize he's a good, no great guy. There is a nice slow burn and a believable friendship that develops leading to a very realistic relationship. There are so many things going on with these two, but all of the issues are believable and work with each other so it never comes across as false drama, a definitely plus.
I laughed, my breath caught in my throat, my stomach dropped and my tears fell. The book was good and I'm definitely going to seek out the next book in the series.
I received and ARC in exchange for an honest review.
