I read The Summer Boy, and was entertained as I re-connected with the mountains and my soul's desire to be free. I read Between Times and was enmeshed in the journeys, entangled in the lives, entranced by the mountains, and found myself trying to contain my soul's freedom lest I find myself between times, having left the present before nature intended. The Summer Boy was a delightful warm-up. Between Times pulled off the difficult task of firmly planting the mid-trilogy volume without coming across as a mere bridge "between tomes": Although an enjoyable read in its own right, as I began reading it I was glad I read the first one, and by the time I finished I was drooling in anticipation of the third.
As reasonable and rationale as I like to think myself to be, I keep "worrying" about what the future will hold for Henry Mitchell's creations. He has managed to conjure up full beings, much closer to humans than the U.S. Supreme Court's misguided belief in corporations as persons. If Henry Mitchell (rather than state laws) created corporations, I might actually come to believe they exist.
I could not help but smile when she said his description of the food alone made her mouth water and her heart long to sit at such a table. She has assured me she will be writing a review as soon as she finishes the second book in this trilogy, "Between Times" and cannot wait to see what happens as she follows young Ben further on into his journey.
My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Most of the characters in The Summer Boy continue on in Between Times, but many new ones have been added. Each character is complex, flawed, vital, and richly drawn. I have come to love this series very much and find myself thinking about the characters and stories at odd times and wondering what on earth Mr. Mitchell could be planning for them next. I truly can hardly wait to read the third and final volume! Highly recommended.

This second part is as magical as the first, and takes us farther down the path of life with Drum, as well as causing us to possibly reflect on our own priorities and choices as well.
A wonderful book, and a must have! Can't wait for the third one!!
