About Beverley Bateman
Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada home of the World Famous Calgary Stampede, I've moved from the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, closer to where I was born. I now live just south of Calgary in Medicine Hat, Alberta Lost the orchards and fruit but we have spectacular veggies here. I continue to write romantic suspense and medical thrillers in my new home. My background in nursing helps with the medical thrillers. I've written most of my life. I used to do those locked room plots many years ago. Now I spend my time plotting perfect murders and then helping my antagonist solve them. I strongly believe that good triumphs over evil and love conquers all. Please check out my books and if you'd like to leave a review - I thank you.

Blog postNow this is an interesting topic. What is the oddest character you have ever dreamed up, and how did they fit into a story?
First, I had to figure out what made a character odd? Their appearance, their occupation, their hobby, did they come from space? I write contemporary but with a touch of paranormal. My WIP has a dog that may have a paranormal element. My Hawkins Ranch series has a grove of trees where the spirits of Native Americans reside and talk to the owners of the ranch. Blog postWhat unique situations have occurred in the writing process of any of your novels? Things where what you planned changed or the direction you thought the story was on deviated or transmuted?
This is a challenging topic. So many of my stories changed directions in the writing. Maybe the one that changed the most was Missing - Luke’s Story. Dr. Allie Parsons is a big city New York doctor with personal and family challenges she preferred not to face. It started out she was going to make a qui2 months ago Read more -
Blog postSeelie Kay is a nom de plume for a writer, editor, and author with more than 30 years of experience in law, journalism, marketing, and public relations. When she writes about love and lust in the legal world, something kinky is bound to happen! In possession of a wicked pen and an overly inquisitive mind, Ms. Kay is the author of multiple works of fiction, including the Kinky Briefs series, the Feisty Lawyers series, The Garage Dweller, A Touchdown to Remember, The President’s Wife, and Th2 months ago Read more

Blog postLast week I discussed Breast Cancer. This week I thought I’d talk about the diagnosis and treatment. The two things women should be doing is a monthly self breast check for any lumps or changes. Always remember to go under the arm and check the lymph nodes in the armpit. Diagnostic mammography is an x-ray that uses small doses of radiation to make an image of the breast. It is used to follow up on abnormal results of a screening mammography or a clinical breast exam. Mammography can also be used2 months ago Read more

Blog postOctober is Breast Cancer Month. Almost everyone knows someone who has, or has had, cancer. Or maybe it’s you, and you’re a survivor. Do you “Run for the Cure?” Do you donate to Breast Cancer this month? No, I’m not hustling for donations, but I like to call attention to this month. And through research, more and more people survive. I’ve known several people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Many years ago, they didn’t survive. Now the prognosis has improved. Blog postRhobin’s topic for this month is another interesting one.In designing your plots what do you rely on most: personal experience, imagination, or research? For me, it’s mostly a combination of all three. A Cruise to Remember I wrote after I had taken my second cruise. The setting was the cruise ship, the various islands we stopped at and even some of the stores. I researched amnesia and Interpol. The actual plot was my imagination.

Blog postAs a writer I’m sure when someone introduces you as a writer you’ve heard people say, “I could write a write book.”But do they ever follow through? Maybe a first paragraph, but it’s a lot harder than people think.Non-writers make excuses. Writers write.
When did you decide to write? How badly do you want it? What will you give up for it?I always wrote starting in elementary school. I wrote paragraphs, descriptions, plots, you name it.But while I’d jot down a scene I went into nursing, work3 months ago Read more -

Blog postWhat a fun topic this month. We’re asked to post an excerpt from one of our books dealing with travel and or vacation. Thanks, Rhobin.I’ve chosen one of my back-list books, A Cruise to Remember. and it's still available on Amazon and Kobo. Since I write romantic suspense, I usually have murder and mystery in my books. So, even though my excerpt is based on a cruise through the Caribbean, it has t include mystery and suspense. Blog postI don’t know about you, but I’m always interested in what’s selling. Which genre is hot right now? How is self publishing doing against standard publishing? Are people buying print books?I went searching and here’s the latest information I could find. The first is on Self-publishing from Bowker and the second part is the hot genres from Ingram Spark, but it’s about 2018. Still, I found it interesting. Let me know if you have any thoughts.

Blog postA few years ago, Dee S. Knight began writing, making getting up in the morning fun. During the day, her characters killed people, fell in love, became drunk with power, or sober with responsibility. And they had sex, lots of sex. Writing was so much fun Dee decided to keep at it. That's how she spends her days. Her nights? Well, she's lucky that her dream man, childhood sweetheart, and long-time hubby are all the same guy, and nights are their secret. Blog postI know I missed last weeks post. I was at the Romance Writers of America National conference. We stayed at a hotel on Time Square. Here’s a view from our window.
On Sunday, before conference started, we went to a show and saw Cher. I’m not a Cher fan. I like the music but sometimes she’s a little over the top. However, the show was great. It showed Cher’s life and the challenges she faced and how she survived and changed to meet the times. The music was awesome. It was fast paced and kept y4 months ago Read more
