About the Author
Christine Michels is traditionally published by both Dorchester Publishing / Leisure Books and Harlequin and has recently she moved into the emerging eBook and ePublishing market. She lives on the Canadian prairie near Medicine Hat, AB. with her husband and two adorable Pomeranians.
Christine began writing mysteries at the age of 11 after running out of Nancy Drew books to read. In her late teens, she added romance novels to her list of reading preferences, and by her early twenties had begun writing them. But it was destined to take a few more years of honing her skills before she would be published by Dorchester Publishing of New York, and her career as a published novelist finally began.

That's the bare bones storyline and giving away much more than that would spoil the fun, and I do mean fun. You never know what you'll get with the Kindle freebies, but this one turned out to be a perfect blend of romance, mystery, cattle rustlers, some good ol' western shootouts, plus a few laughs and quirky characters (and pet!) thrown in for good measure. I thought the twist on the Samson and Delilah story was very well done, both Matt (Samson) and Delilah carry secrets and emotional baggage from their respective pasts. Those secrets are revealed slowly throughout the book, keeping the reader guessing and turning the pages.
Beyond Betrayal is another one of those older romances taking on new life in the digital age, just don't let that older cover scare you off (it's so awful I'm not even going to show you). A big thumbs up for a nice clean digital copy as well. If there were any typos or conversion errors I was too busy enjoying the story to notice them. 4/5 stars, perfect for a lighter, rainy day read.
Samson Towers, now known as Matt Chandler, is sheriff of Red Rock. He's not fond of Delilah's choice for cash creation although he's becoming very fond of Delilah. But both have dark secrets in their pasts and fight their attraction to each other. It's fun to watch how the romance develops and learn more about the characters at the same time.
Meanwhile we have lots of other things going on: cattle rustlers, bounty hunters, a dying husband, a little dog named Poopsy for comic relief, dangerous wild animals, and enough action/adventure to keep you glued to your Kindle.
With the main protagonists named Samson and Delilah, it's easy to figure out who will betray whom. The interesting part of the betrayal is the 'why', the frustrating part is the 'when will she confess what she has done', and the exciting part is the 'what can be done about it'.
This would have made a great movie back in the day when Westerns were all the rage.
Why the drop to a four star? While I have nothing but good things to say about the book I was a bit disappointed in the quick resolution at the end. I found the ending a bit rushed and kind of abrupt. Despite my complaint, this was one of the better western romances that I have read and will keep it on my Kindle. I would most definitely read another book by this author.
