Usually 5 stars but I did have a defective bottle that was leaking from the top sealed fissure above the beyond coastal logo, I squirted half of it all over my car.

I am a little paranoid about sun exposure and I still manage to get sunburns on a regular basis. Really this is because I hate wearing sunscreen. This was especially bad a few years ago when I started using spray sunscreens because they seemed convenient. I ended up getting striped sunburns instead of just normal lobster sunburns. And, if you've never been sunburned in California, *don't start* because they will look at you like you are an alien. I don't know why Californians don't burn. Maybe they've been trained since childhood to put on sunscreen, maybe they have a special California happiness gene that repels sunlight, I don't know, but my husband's a native Californian and I'm from the East Coast and my Irish/German/English-American butt gets *burned* and apparently is worthy of staring at with fascination/repulsion.

*Anyway,* the point is that this sunscreen is great! because, since it's so thick, you know where you have applied it and you rub it in appropriately and you're done. I don't think it's possible to overspread it like other really thin sunscreens which means that you use the right amount to cover your skin. I also have sensitive skin and I don't find that it makes me break out (although I don't use it on my face unless I have to). It is slightly greasy, but I find that this feeling dissipates after about ten minutes.

The best part is that Beyond Coastal seems to last for quite a while. I know it is a good habit to reapply (what every 3-4 hours?), but I am lazy and usually don't and I don't get burned when I use this. I have also used Beyond Coastal and then gone in the water and still not gotten burned (not recommended!).

I am not someone that likes to think too much about all of the ways that we are poisoning ourselves with chemicals, but when I heard about the Environmental Working Group's study of sunscreens and the way that ingredients in typical sunscreens can break down with sun exposure, I wanted to find a product that would help avoid this problem. I like Beyond Coastal better than any other sunscreen I've used. I feel that it works better and I suspect that it's related to the ingredients they use. I also don't think it's coincidental that this product is better for my sensitive skin.

I put in HOURS of research to narrow down a list of sunscreens that were SAFE (low EWG rating), EFFECTIVE (has to work!), PLEASANT (no hours of rubbing in and no ghost look) and AFFORDABLE (because who has wads of cash to spend on tiny bottles of subscreen?!) Unfortunately, this was a pretty small list.
This Beyond Coastal is one of a handful I have now purchased and tried out for myself, and I am so glad to have found it. This is a FANTASTIC natural mineral-based sunscreen.
It smells lovely without being obnoxious, feels like a body butter, goes on smoothly with ZERO greasiness or stickiness (I am still in awe of this...), rubs in with just the slightest bit more time/effort than a standard sunscreen, and works like a charm even in and out of water. (I spent 2+ hrs kayaking on the lake, with occasional dips in the water, and my fair burn-happy skin stayed perfectly protected).
The only cons I can think of would be the lotion came out with some minor clumping. But I didn't find it to be an issue in application, spreading, or rubbing in. And I am not one to nitpick about details when I find a truly great product - especially when the alternatives are awful.
So. 5 stars. Well done, Beyond Coastal!

It is light and sheer and seems to work well because I see less sun spots than I do with other brands. It is also no toxic. Last year I was in Bermuda for my July 4th wedding anniversary and I fell and broke my ankle in 2 places. Unfortunately I had to stay in all summer last year.
This year we decided to stay in America for health care in case of an emergency because I have not fully recovered because I have underlying health issues.
Anyway I am using the same bottle in Long Island and NJ beaches and it seems to be working. Normally even with SPF 60 I go to the beach with a sun hat and SPF 60 of other brands and I look like I had no sun screen on when I leave the beach looking like a sun damaged leopard.
This sun screen does the job! The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is I need to use it more to see if I get any new sun spots.
But it is the best most useful sunscreen I have tried!

Wow, this stuff works a little too well. I bought this for a vacation to Aruba in June. I am of Italian descent and tan easily but burn rarely. I was advised by family and friends who've been there that time of year to buy strong sunscreen. Well, this was the strongest I was willing to buy and the days I wore it, I got NO color at all, even when being outside the entire day. I was glad that I didn't burn, but ended up using the spf 16 so that I could get a bit of color. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who wants a natural sunscreen that WORKS. My sister and niece (who are both more fair than I am) both wore it and didn't burn either. My cousin (who is very fair) actually used this on her face after it had been burned and was beet red. She was very impressed with it too! The only thing people might complain about is that it does leave white streaks if you're coming out of the pool or whatever, but these were small streaks and didn't seem to affect the coverage. I felt that this went on easily and rubbed in quickly (within about 10 seconds it was all absorbed) and left my skin feeling soft rather than sticky or gross. Highly recommend!

I bought this sunscreen because I was looking for a healthier sunscreen and I have darker skin so I can't pull off the zinc sunscreen and still look natural. It seems to take a little longer to rub in than normal sunscreen and a couple of times it seemed to flake a little but it seemed to only be if I put on too much. I'm not crazy about the smell but it fades pretty quickly. It was fine for days that I was lounging on the beach or swimming but the one day that I wore it and did vigorous activity that involved a lot of sweating it started to turn white on my skin and ran in my eyes and burned; I probably won't use it for sports or outdoors exercise again. I didn't burn though, so it did what it was supposed to do.
