This book offers simple recipes from across India. I like that it brings together recipes for a variety of regions. This is good for someone who just wants to test the waters of cooking Indian food as the recipes aren’t overwhelming at all. The explanation of the staple ingredients and useful tools is very helpful for those who are unfamiliar with the ingredients. The home remedies are also something I have never seen before and though it was a great addition. I would recommend this for someone who wants to jump into Indian cooking and get their feet wet.

I really like Indian food. I eat it 3 or 4 times a month but can’t seem to cook it well. So when I received the opportunity to review this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review, I was happy to do so. The history and information in the intro was helpful, especially the websites for purchasing the Indian spices. With all the information provided, the recipes look doable and they don’t have a long list of ingredients. I really like the “make it fast” tips and appendix directions for doing these recipes in a pressure cooker. This is my first Indian cookbook but the variety of recipes makes it really comprehensive and I look forward to improving my cooking skills.

I have always enjoyed Indian food with their fragrant spices and tastes that are unique. At least once a month we would go to an Indian buffet in Dallas and I would pig out on all the different foods. I had never cooked Indian food before but after retiring I got the urge to do so and started doing some research and then had a chance to read this book.

Overall I very pleased with the book. The author gives the history of Indian food and then spends time explaining each one and their use. I particularly liked the depth at which she talked about each one giving the English and Indian name for each spice. Those references are worth the price of the book alone. The book is divided into the typical segments of breakfast, lunch, dinner,,snacks and deserts along with drinks etc. I also like the fact that the heat factor as well as prep times and other quick information is given on the first page of each dish.

I have only tried one recipe so far and it was very good. I do admit I am not into grinding or creating my own spice mixtures so I purchased them already done for me;however, I think that probably 95% of the people who read this would want to do the same but you are certainly given the choice of grinding your own blends with the authors recipes.

I think that this would be a good addition to anyone's cook book collection and I know that I will be trying other recipes in the near future. I did receive this book as a "free" gift in exchange for an honest review which I have done and would have evaluated the book and given the same rating regardless.

I have used this book to make so many recipes. I’ve made breakfast, lunch and dinner. I’ve attached many pictures of the recipes. The book does sometimes lack in the pictures department, so hopefully my pictures add a little bit of interest. I’ve made chicken, egg, lentils, and so much more. It has tons of options for vegans and vegetarians which I was really surprised by. Also, there are a few Instant pot recipes as well.

Sometimes I found it hard to find a lot of the ingredients, so I just omitted it or substituted something else. Other times, when I found the ingredient I realized the ingredient really didn’t add any extra level of taste. So, you don’t really need a lot of the ingredients. If you want to simplify that’s fine. I’ve found that chilli, turmeric, and garam masala are the only ingredients that cannot be substituted; those few ingredients add tons of flavor.

Also, a few typos in the book bothered me. For instance, one time it said “shimmering” instead of simmering. Little details like that bother me because this is a published book and I would assume someone would edit the book until it is perfect.

I would also recommend going to the authors blog she has tons more recipes there. I would highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to do some indian cooking.

Disclosure: I received an advanced readers copy of the book.
