BGaE is a great title. But if you own a 64 bit copy of windows 7 do not buy this cd set. I have windows 7 ultimate, 64 bit, and every time I tried installing the software, the game just ceased to exist. If you haven't played this game before, find some way to play it. It's one of the best adventure titles ever created.

Windows Vista and Beyond Good and Evil are not best friends, but they can still get along if you turn off all the compatability options in the advanced video settings. Framerate problems are inevitable, however, and they really detract from the cinematic quality of the game's action-heavy sequences.

Beyond that evil, though, the game is all-around good. It follows the Legend of Zelda sandbox philosophy in that you can explore ever-increasing sections of the world once you acquire certain items or complete certain quests. The stealth aspects of the game make most of play seem like a watered-down version of Splinter Cell set in Hyrule. So, as I wouldn't say that Beyond Good and Evil is explicitly better than Ocarina of Time or Chaos Theory, it is worth noting that successfully imitating those games and seamlessly fusing their control schemes, which Beyond Good and Evil has done, is a noble feat.

Furthermore, where gritty, realistic games have "atmosphere," Michel Ancel's signature cartoonish style has "flavor," and this flavor alone makes Beyond Good and Evil worth playing. The humor is rich and timeless, and, though the characters lips are synced with the French soundtrack, I find the English dub actually superior in both performance and writing.

In the end, Beyond Good and Evil can still serve gaming as an instructor in good design. Given the amount of discoveries to make from beginning to end, there is never really a boring moment.

Just had a chance to play a bit of this game as it just came in this last Friday. At first the controllers sort of messed me up as I wasn't used to having a layout that was set up for either left handed mouse users or right handed mouse users. This game is set up that way. It was also nice to see that this version (DVD) of the game included the 1.01 patch and that you didn't have to patch it. (Learned this by downloading and attempting to install the patch only to receive a message it wasn't needed. Way to go Ubisoft!) The game itself, being an older title, has some dated graphics but they look great on both my gaming systems. (For Infor: 1. Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit, 4 gig RAM, HD-4670 video card 1 gig. RAM, SB Audigy SE; 2. Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit, 16 gigs RAM, NVidia GT-730 video card with 2 gigs GDDR5 RAM, SB Audigy FX 5.1 card.) The installation on both these system went smoothly with no problems other than changing the default resolution to match my Viewsonic's native res of 1366x768 @ 60 hz. Both games ran great and I was able to start playing with no problems in game play. One good thing I found out is the DVD isn't needed after you get the game installed. You can just click it and start. As I noted, the game doesn't support a gamepad which is the one main thing I really didn't like, but it's support for left and right handed game player made up for that. I normally play KB and mouse games by using a left handed mouse. (I'm not left handed and write with my right hand but just got used to playing that way.) This game has two sets of set ups for just such situations. If playing with a right handed mouse then the A,W,S,D become you default move keys and at the same time it supports the arrow keys for movement too. It goes a step further on this, it provides a set of right handed key to control different game option on the right hand side of the KB. (Such as the "0" key and the "shift" key both allowing you to enter the use camera mode, etc.) This makes playing this game much easier than it would be if you had to change all the key bindings to play. It has a number of different things on the left and right mouse buttons depending on which menu your in. It's laid out pretty good but takes some getting use to and it's not set up like most games. (You can customize the controls if you want and I've noted that others noted that it can be played with a gamepad if you use certain third party software but I didn't play around with this. a couple of other things I noted were the set up app that came with the game was a bit buggy it seemed to me. I had no trouble setting up my resolution the first time I played but when I checked it again, it didn't show any resolutions at all nor any refresh rates. I also noted that on the Win 7 system it said my video card drivers weren't up to date (they were the latest for the card I have.), but the game still ran great on it. I just told it to run anyway. Overall, this game is fun to play and it grabbed me right from the start. A good game!

Honestly it pains me to have to give this such a low rating, but the compatibility is crap and the game is glitchy and the framerate is atrocious on a modern gaming computer.
I love this game but it just doesn't work.

You play as Jade, a pretty young woman who is a reporter.

The game is essentially a 13-year old's mystery game. It has some puzzle-solving moments scattered throughout the story, but nothing mind-wracking. Fighting and violence are treated as terrors, with some hints as to its effects on people. Ultimately you pierce the web of lies and find out who was causing all the trouble, culminating in a final battle with the real villain.

Overall, I enjoyed it, but it's short, probably 10-15 hours at best. There's no replay value since you can't control more than what you purchase, for example. A sequel would be nice.

This game is not fun--it's frustrating. It's difficult to maneuver the main character and the graphics are very poor. If I could get my money back on this one, I'd would. Don't waste yours.

This game DOES work on windows 7, but what a journey I went on to find that out. I bought this game from amazon, it loaded but didn't play. Then just recently I found this game in Target. It was DVD (not CD-Rom) and it says it was compatible with windows 7! The only thing is you'd have to buy that one, because this one is cd-rom (maybe soon they will get the newer version on amazon). Besides that, I really liked this game. If your a fan of the longest journey, I recommend this game. The only thing I didn't like was the save feature. You have to be near a certain disc machine in the game to save. This machine turns up alot, but not on every single place you happen to be. Also the keyboard manuevering hurt my arm after awhile in making the character walk and ride the boat/raft. And I got a headache sometimes because the colors were neon bright.
