I have read the book and find it well written. Kim does her research and is an expert in her field. The focus of the book is NOT on income inequality, it is on what caused the recession, the resulting financial crisis, and how to protect yourself in the future.

Not well written. Difficult to follow. Doesn't deal with inequality in income

I reread this book over the weekend and have to say that it's a great cliff note's version of what happened during the recession of 07-08. It provides perspective on how recessions have traditionally worked and why the Great Recession was not a typical recession. It provides a play-by-play account of what actions were taken by who and how they affected us (the normal American). She writes directly to the reader in a conversational tone that answers your questions as you read. Her analogies are easy to understand and provide a personality and action to otherwise boring numbers and trends. If you are studying the recession, this is a book you should have dog-eared and marked up. If you were laid off and worried about it happening again, this book can give you an understanding of how it happened and also provide you some pointers for insulating yourself. It's obviously a well-researched book and it was well worth the reread to remind myself of the not so distant past. I feel like I'm better equipped to recognize the market's signals now that I've read (and reread) this book.

I love this book. For someone like me who is not well informed about what drives the economy or understanding investments, I found Ms Amadeo's book enlightening, informative, and well written. I especially like that she gave me options to protect myself from recessions in the future...

How refreshing to read a book about the econmy that is easily understandable! Kimberly not only explains why we got to the point that we did in our economy but gives good advice on how to handle it in a creative way. Great book that goes beyond understanding this singular event in our recent history to explaining some basic principles of economics that are useful to understand in any economy.

Beyond the Great Recession provides the fundamentals even I could understand. I believe this should be used in every economics high school or college course. I go back to it time and time again for a refresher.
