Are we alone? It was only a matter of time before the truth was revealed....
Commander David Bryce is scheduled to lead a routine re-supply run for the Orbital Development Group (ORB) to the fledgling colony on Mars. Without warning, he’s taken away by government agents and told the mission parameters have changed.
They’ve discovered something. And it’s drifting closer to Earth.
Atlas Donovan tirelessly hunts for an artifact, and tracks it to Lake Como, Italy. After the recent news from ORB, Atlas is more drawn to the trail than ever. He continues his search, determined to uncover the significance of the strange markings, and more importantly, where the artifacts really came from.
As both Atlas and David draw near to their objectives, they realize a secret organization is working against them; a clandestine force with so much influence, they seem impossible to oppose.
Are we alone?
No, and they’ve been here before...

At the same time as this is unfolding, we are introduced to Lennon Baxter, a former special agent who is somewhat unhinged, due to an operation that did not end well. However, she has been recalled to active duty to take a role in the mission.
Along with the rest of the crew, Carter, Zasha, Liu, and Akira, David and Lennon are sent off into space to go and meet this mysterious ‘Interloper’ and discover what it is, who or what is onboard, and discover why it has come to our system.
In another part of the story, we meet Atlas Donovan, who at first appears to be a like a secret agent, stealing artifacts for rich collectors. However, we soon learn that he is a man who is obsessed with a particular type of artifact, and has been on a mission for most of his adult life. He is looking for what he believes to be pieces of an alien space craft, he thinks he has one, a piece he got from his Father years ago. At the start of the book, we find him trying to acquire a second piece.
Events unfold rapidly in this book, with the mission to the Interloper happening quickly (and I do NOT want to give away any spoilers there), and at the same time, Atlas on his mission to find pieces of the alien spacecraft back on Earth. What seem to be two unrelated storylines though (funnily enough!), have an odd way of being connected.
This is a book that starts off with some interesting character building and some interesting storylines, and then explodes into a fast-paced thriller in which you just can’t read fast enough to find out what happens next.
The character work in this book is Hystad and Scott at their absolute best, with so many amazing characters to follow. Bryce is outstanding as the Family man who is trapped into going on this mission, and once there, realises he is just way out of his league. But at the same time, he has been doing this for a long time, he is not the Commander of the missions for no reason, and we get to see why he is the leader in so many ways in this book. His motivations as the Father figure are also incredibly powerful, and as a father myself, I really understood where he was coming from so many times in this book. Lennon Baxter is the Special Ops Soldier who has returned from her last operation with a severe case of PTSD after losing someone close to her. It has left her broken and on the edge, and we the character work in this book ix exceptional at conveying just how much psychological damage she has taken. As someone who deals with PTSD on a daily basis, I could empathise with Lennon’s pain, but more than that, I could understand her drive in other parts of the book to. Lennon is a really fascinating and complex character.
The other characters in this book are fantastic, Carter as the Linguist is hilarious, and has a lot of courage when pushed. Zasha is wonderful as the Engineer, Liu is brilliant as the Dr, and provides an interesting insight on aspects of the Interloper that really make for fascinating reading. His character is intriguing. Akira is another captivating character.
Together the crew makes for an interesting dynamic.
Atlas is a really fascinating character, from the first scene, his obsession with the artifacts, and finding out where they came from and what they are. He is driven by this compulsive need to understand.
One of the really exceptional parts of this story is the world-building, which makes it something very different from other stories of this genre. The Interloper is something a bit different, but what they find there is something very different, and creates an absolutely stunning thriller that you just can’t put down. Add to that the elements of the story that relate to Atlas’s hunt, in which the world-building is just outstanding, and this is a really outstanding bit of story-telling.
Hystad and Scott have really outdone themselves on this occasion, as once you start this, you won’t be able to put it down, and you will be desperate to get the second and third books also!!
This is one series that is not to be missed and is one of the Stand-outs for the year!!
Once this book gets rolling, there's plenty of excitement to keep the pages turning. The mysteries of an unknown visitor keep you guessing on two different fronts. The only problem is, I read at night - in bed. Remember the spiders?
Just read the book.
Moving at an incredible speed the “object” becomes clearer as it gets closer. It is estimated that the object is not headed for Earth but appears to be drifting toward the Sun. The closer it gets, the more mysterious it becomes. It soon becomes apparent that this is a ship several miles long, a curiosity that must be explored.
As luck would have it, there is a ship planning a resupply mission to the Mars colony. It gets diverted, under strange orders from an unknown source and the new mission is to intercept and explore this strange alien ship. Or is that really the mission.
There is an old saying, “Be careful what you wish for…”. Will the crew of this Earth ship find what they hope?
Knock, knock, anybody in there?
Well written, interwoven storylines converge at the point where humankind’s future is a question.
Grab some snacks and a drink, you won’t want to put this one down.

As usual it's enjoyable.stuff from two greats authors teaming up together.
I'll probably get the audio book as well soon. I'm starting the next book almost right away. Have the ARC to this but I have been so busy & by the time I downloaded the copy it was due out the next day or so anyway. Book two is due out tomorrow so I will just get that instead of using the ARC. I hope you have some waiting for my vacation in September/October when I fully concentrate on them then Jasper? Brilliant stuff anyway get it.

Ok aliens heading to earth and trying to intercept them before they get here, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t just out and out over the top action and there was an actual story behind it to hold my attention. There were a good few twists and turns making it harder to predict exactly what was going to happen next.
I’m not really sure how Atlas fits into it all, at the moment his story line just seems like padding to the main story line, although that won’t really become apparent until the next book. It felt like his big moment and how he fitted in to it all to join the two story lines together was just around the corner but never really came other than he happens to be there.
The only bit that really bugged me was the descriptions of the aliens, there were a few different types and only really briefly described so it was hard to picture them while reading the book. Some artists drawings throughout the book would have been great ( can that even be done on kindle 🤷🏻♂️)
It has certainly left me wanting to read the second book to find out what happens next.
