This is a movie represents the peak of horror back in the 1980's, even in Asia, it is popular back then I heard. Some nudity in the movie is actually ok to me, some other movie more recently(after 2000) about the dracula's brides in their beasty form wearing tight dress covering their upper bodies makes me want to laugh, if these brides are half female and half bat in their original form, do they really care about people see their boobs? I prefer movies like this to be rated R, and make it in true rated R movies show their true potentials, nudity is just part of artistic view or perspective of how to make a really great and true to the point horror movies. 1992 Francis Ford Coppola directed dracula movie is a great movie ( some actor and actresses may not act at their best but still good), nudity is just right to the point, how can you forget rise of dracula's brides in that room, Monica Bellucci was beautiful and still is beautiful till today, nudity is necessary parts of making a great movie, eastern audience today are more open and acceptable to nudity in movie and films than western audience today. Feel like western audience are more conservative today, I could be wrong.
If nudity is not acceptable, no artistic value in artistic world, what should we do with those statues and portraits of ancient greek and roman fairy tales and gods and goddess...
in this movie, barbara crampton did good job on her character, she strikes a balance between the cuteness, sense of wondering of lust and sexyness, not shy away from nudity - professional. This movie is about the sex fantasy and explore, not sex itself, that is why it is so intriguing and causing curiosity to many horror movie fans.

First of all, i'd like to say that this a pretty descent movie. i rented this movie years ago on VHS. When i first was released, was oddly fascinated with the plot.
It's one of those movie you just have to take it for what it is. You will either like it or you won't. There is a high probability that you will.
It stars Jeffrey Combs in a pre-"Re-Animator" roll. Having tapped into to a different reality (or universe) with a machine that taps into the pinneal gland. Descartes believed that it was the interface between the mind and the rest of the brain: he considered it the seat of the soul. [...] His theories are exploted by a scientist (did i say "MAD") on interfacing the pinneal gland with the machine. That is when all "HELL" breaks loose... I don't want to give the story line away because if you haven't seen it you should.
I was fortunate enough recently to get a "COPY". "COPY" of the dvd (German Release)and for a modest amount. The only thing i'd complain about is that it isn't "WIDESCREEN". Which is such a "TRIVIAL" matter-it isn't worth mentioning.
(((you will like the movie even in "FULLSCREEN".)))
I'd only ever seen the VHS copy and it was "FULLSCREEN". We'll back then there wasn't WIDE/FULL it was just "VIDEO". I wouldn't suggest paying a "HUGE" amount for the DVD.
Why people are charging so much i don't know. We can keep are fingers crossed for a U.S. released and all the people milking people for extra cash can keep there german release.
If you are looking for a movie that is different. This is the movie for you. If you are affraid of seeing something "different", i'd suggest staying with "CHICKEN LITTLE" or even "STUART LITTLE".
Other movies i've noticed that are "EXTREMELY" expensive are "FLETCH" and "1984". Even "FLASH GORDON" is expensive, why dvds are made in such limited printing i don't understand they are cheap to make. Limiting there release only makes it more difficult for movie fans to watch or own. It sickens me to no ends for someone to charge that much for a movie $50-$80 when you know they didn't pay but $9.00 at the most.
I'd say look for it in a Video Movie Rental place. Watch it and if you like it enough find it for a modest price. I only paid $15.00 for it and it was worth every "PENNY". $80.00 or more is ridiculous!!!
Thanks for reading my review and i hope you like it.

    Wow,
I was Impressed by how much amazing and creepy footage was cut from this film even from the theaters. (saw it in 1986) Amazing how cool many of the effects still are and with all the gore and just plain creepiness you could remember PLUS More!
if you liked this film way back, then you MUST get this NOW before it goes out of print. it is simply as it should be a complete Horror film complete with jump-out scenes and all sorts of weirdness you would expect from the makers of Re-animator.
Jeffrey Combs (From Star Trek DS:9 and even Voyager and also the Re-animator series) does an excellent job in this film as a scientist working under Doctor Praetorius with a machine that enhances and stimulates the pineal gland in the brain. well, they begin to see creatures, and they see them! a nasty lovecraftian tale!
the deviant behavior the resonator seems to Induce in people was truly an inspired idea and was well thought out and even with a fairly small budget at the time they did an excellent job in both acting and in special effects. you cannot go wrong with this film in any way.

Loads of extras as well round off this dvd such as:
audio commentary by director stuart gordon and cast, Director's perspective featurette, The editing Room: Lost and Found featurette, interview with the composer, photo montage, storyboards for the film, commparrisons with introduction.

Truly a wealth of features for fans of the film.

5 Star film, cast and story.
    5 stars for Extras!
5 Stars for making it the Right way.

earn another 5 stars buying it here!

    I Love this Film!

5.0 out of 5 stars Something... is coming
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 10, 2019
Back in the mid to late '80s, this was kind of a big deal. Following on from their triumphant debut 'Re- Animator', creative team Stuart Gordon (director), Brian Yuzna (producer) and screenwriter Dennis Paoli unleashed this rather 'gooey' splatter filled monster epic that promised to outdo the craziness of their previous picture... which it almost does. But lets face it - nothing can truly overthrow the good Dr West and his unique brand of lunacy. Even though they do give it a helluva good try...

We first meet obsessive and slightly unhinged scientist Dr. Edward Pretorius (Ted Sorel) who between kinking it up with a bevvy of local ladies, has plunged his crazy brain into the discovery of a parallel universe where pleasure and pain rule. Alongside his meek assistant Dr. Crawford Tillinghast (Jeffrey Combs) they both attempt to trip the light fantastic, but when Pretorius is murdered by a creature 'from beyond', Crawford is subsequently accused of his dispatch... When the local authorities disbelieve his cracked up tale of interdimensional beasties, they turn to psychiatrist Katherine McMichaels (Barbara Crampton) and detective Bubba Brownlee (Ken Foree) for help. Returning to the scene of the crime, they soon discover the secrets of that parallel universe when it is opened up once again allowing all manner of monsters to cross over and torment our trio, with a returning Pretorius intent on taking control of both that dimension... and ours.

Although not as good as 'Re-Animator' there is much to enjoy in this lurid follow up. Director Stuart Gordon has a real keen eye for the macabre laced with dark humor and 'From Beyond' is riddled with it. Lead Combs plays everything extremely straight and at times is genuinely deadpan funny (his 'It ate him... bit off his head... like a gingerbread man!' is a major comedy highlight), thankfully he's ably supported by both Crampton and Sorel who eat up the silly screenplay ensuring the absurdity is delivered with real relish. This H.P. Lovecraft adaptation may not be faithful, but it sure delivers the late '80s gory goods; from a whole heap of ghoulish monsters to the old bout of head ripping - this one's got it all.

This Blu-Ray release from Second Sight is a delight featuring both a brilliant transfer and vibrant audio, rounded off by a plethora of excellent special features: Stuart Gordon talks the movie, an interview with writer Dennis Paoli and Barbara Crampton, the FX of From Beyond, audio commentary with Stuart Gordon, Brian Yuzna and Jeffrey Combs and a storyboard to film comparison. All in all, its a slight step back from 'Re-Animator' in terms of Gordon's filmography but taken as a separate entity, it delivers a wonderfully gonzo good time. Highly recommended purchase.

I watched this because I was a big fan of Re-Animator, which was done by the same director, and had many of the same cast. While this movie is a bit different, I enjoyed it a lot.
The makeup effects are amazing. Some great gross out scenes.
This Scream Factory Blu-ray presents the film at its best. The picture is very clear, and there are many interviews with cast members and the director. I had the DVD version, but I was glad to upgrade for this one.
NOTE: This is the extended version of the film.
