The book was a fun to read. The story of James and Quinn kept me entertained and hooked from page 1.
The dual POV was a nice switch up from this author's narrative. A must read!
"Quinn was beyond me. She owned character and had no one helping her. I had a pot full of money, opportunities everywhere, and I still failed. I hid behind the sails, confirmed our direction, and wondered if I'd ever be worthy of someone like her-or anyone, for that matter." -James
I don't think I've ever read a book where Jennifer Probst has left me disappointed. From her Marriage to a Billionaire series to her Searching For series, Probst has a way of making me come back for more--and Beyond Me is no different! Having already read Between Us, I knew a little bit of Quinn's storyline, but not enough to form a solid opinion on her. I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know both Quinn and James--and dare I say it: I think these two are my favorite of the three couples!
Quinn is the hardworking, mother-hen type of the group. There's no tragic past she's running from, but she hasn't exactly had it easy growing up with an alcoholic father. Nevertheless, instead of letting that bring her down, it's made her a strong, independent young woman--which we don't see enough in New Adult. Quinn has her life (semi) together. She has two time-consuming jobs she loves, a strong head on her shoulders and a great support system. Still, life can get a little hectic and that's why she's on this vacation with her best friends. The plan? Find an attractive guy, have a no-strings-attached fling and finally have an orgasm. That's not too much to ask for, right?
James and Quinn meet right off the bat and from the very beginning there's this hot, sexual attraction. Quinn can obviously tell he's a little too arrogant for her taste, but it's not long before she's putty in his hands. I'm always glad when there's more to a guy than a pretty face and full pockets. James appears to have it all but it's only an illusion. Probst doesn't dwell too, too much on it, but underneath the slick persona James portrays, there's a small little boy begin for love and affection.Read more ›
The story takes place during spring break in Key West, Florida with three girls. Instead of the girls staying together they decide to spilt up the entire time and just meet up periodically. Thinking this will improve their chances to get a guy.
Quinn is this nerdy type of girl who is nothing like the girls running around in next to nothing. She also doesn't have the curves or the boobs.
James is the sexy rich boy who does what he wants and does who he wants. He is surrounded by "friends" but is also alone. People use him for his money and his parties.
Now once you figure out the basis of the story you know how it will end. So I won't bother with that. I will say I was hooked reading this and for 99 cents for each book in the series it was worth it. It gave me a chance to read something from Jennifer Probst. I do plan on reading more books from her in the future.
Overall, I enjoyed Beyond Me, because it takes Quinn who's not your typical run of the mill heroine and classic rich boy, James, and see if they can overcome difference and aim for a real relationship past spring break.
Favorite Quote from Quinn:
"Nah, not worth giving him another notch for his sexual belt. I did have my pride."
Favorite Quote from James:
"She was different, and once I slept with her, the lure of the chase would settle me. Kind of s****y, but men were pretty much the same. We couldn't really help it our dicks led our brains and once satisfied, the fog cleared and we were able to think clearly again."
