Overall, I enjoyed Beyond Me, because it takes Quinn who's not your typical run of the mill heroine and classic rich boy, James, and see if they can overcome difference and aim for a real relationship past spring break.
Favorite Quote from Quinn:
"Nah, not worth giving him another notch for his sexual belt. I did have my pride."
Favorite Quote from James:
"She was different, and once I slept with her, the lure of the chase would settle me. Kind of s****y, but men were pretty much the same. We couldn't really help it our dicks led our brains and once satisfied, the fog cleared and we were able to think clearly again."
The story takes place during spring break in Key West, Florida with three girls. Instead of the girls staying together they decide to spilt up the entire time and just meet up periodically. Thinking this will improve their chances to get a guy.
Quinn is this nerdy type of girl who is nothing like the girls running around in next to nothing. She also doesn't have the curves or the boobs.
James is the sexy rich boy who does what he wants and does who he wants. He is surrounded by "friends" but is also alone. People use him for his money and his parties.
Now once you figure out the basis of the story you know how it will end. So I won't bother with that. I will say I was hooked reading this and for 99 cents for each book in the series it was worth it. It gave me a chance to read something from Jennifer Probst. I do plan on reading more books from her in the future.
The book was a fun to read. The story of James and Quinn kept me entertained and hooked from page 1.
The dual POV was a nice switch up from this author's narrative. A must read!
James is your typical spoiled, entitled, trust fund brat. Out for a good time, not a long time. Until he meets her. Quinn has had to struggle for everything she's accomplished, and when she goes to Key West on vacation with her two best girlfriends, she is there to have a good time, to relax and hook up, before she goes back home and puts her nose back to the grindstone of work and school, school and work.
When James first sees Quinn, he is struck dumb at her beauty. His friends deem her an ice queen, and dare James that he can't get her into bed. James accepts, and moves in for the kill. He never expected Quinn to see past his facade and to the man he really is. The man no one expects him to be.
This was a sweet story about not trusting your partner, but trusting yourself enough to go after your dream, and risk failure and humiliation. Being open to trying to reach your goal. And falling in love with the one person who will always have your back, and wants you for you, not what you can do for her.
While this was a tad too short (the epilogue needed another few paragraphs), I really enjoyed this story. This is part of a trilogy, but this can be read as a stand-alone. The trilogy is in conjunction with other authors, and those stories deal with the friends Quinn travels with, who we see rarely in this story.
The focus of this story is on Quinn and James, growing up and growing together.
