There must be a writer's class where the "formula" is taught. First, our heroine has a dark past. Then, she's thrown into a man's world. Later she doubts herself but refuses to give up. Finally, breaking all the rules our heroine chases down the killer without regard for her safety, and finally, the men all accept her as an equal.
It can be FBI, sheriff, or local PD.
That's not to say the stories aren't good, this one is. However, when she confronts her first victim, she cuts him down and moves the body. Where's the coroner? Why didn't he/she come inspect the body 'in situ'? So the credibility faltered right out of the box. Also, she's an "officer", why is she lead on a murder? The town has no detectives? Eh???

## 4 stars. This could have been a five star book, but a rookie cop being assigned a homicide case her very first day alone? And then she solves and apprehends the serial killer the very same day? Well, it's a tad far fetched, especially when she's bossing around the Coast Guard Captain lol. But the rest was good and I would read again (I'll just have to suspend my disbelief a little).

Trying to gain the respect from her fellow officers, this upcoming investigation will determine in future on the department. As an ex-cop myself, I know the pressure that can be applied by your peers especially being a rookie. 200 pages could have been reduced with less psychological evaluation, but all and all this was a great book. Highly recommend!
