Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The album reunites Hutchinson with veteran Boston producer Crit
Harmon (Martin Sexton, Mary Gauthier) for what is her most experimental and intricate production to date. "Crit and I have worked together for a decade now. I wanted to build on that trust and that shared musical language and really
encourage each other to find new sounds," she says. "I felt that I had reached a new landscape in myself and I wanted the album to reflect that." The result is an album reminiscent of David Gray's White Ladder where revelatory lyrics combine with a fresh contemporary production.

The songs on Beyond That, at once ecstatic and meditative, are evidence that she has taken this message to heart. "I believe that the role of an artist is to keep braving that deep inner work, to keep growing," she says. "Creativity should be a method for transformation. This takes time, it takes quiet. I have spent a good deal of the last three years walking in the woods with my dog, sitting out on the rocks beside my favorite lake watching the sky go dark, learning a meditation and yoga practice." The resulting songs are about coming home, about transforming desire, about how human love can
open the heart for some greater purpose.

Review

beautifully descriptive, introspective tunes. Her music also calls to mind her early influences, like Greg Brown and Joni Mitchell. --Kim Ruehl, Folk Music About.com

"one of those works that quietly gets under your skin...nakedly intimate lyrics, and muted, bittersweet melodies." --Dirty Linen

Imagine a somewhat less commercial Norah Jones with a more understated production or maybe a female Nick Drake. --No Depression

Meg Hutchinson is a Local Hero to this Massachusetts gal- she can write music that spans all kinds of topics and keeps it real. It's a keeper.

Meg Hutchinson is new to me having recently been introduced to her by Fish Records. Beyond That is an extremely charming well-produced CD from start to finish. It is full of stories about her life that reflect her honesty and sincerity. The songs are moving and have a good overall pace. Her voice is very rich, consuming and well-balanced. Yellow Room (track 4) is a masterpiece and is the star track. However none of the other tracks should be written off as they are all well-rounded and each tells a story - listen in particular to Let's Go, When the Lights Go Down and Everything More Beautiful. This is a very warm CD and well worth a good listen. Highly recommended.

I have been listening to this in the car over and over again. The tunes are great and very moody. The piano playing is a nice addition to the guitar playing. There is even one song with a cello part that I can't get out of my head. For singer-songwriter fans, especially fans of Meg Hutchinson, this will not disappoint.

Meg Huchinson grows on you. The more I listen to her songs the more I discover and so far I have not burned out on her music or voice at all. I find Meg's music personal and intimate, and while some of her songs are sad, her music makes me happy.
