I challenged my congregation to join me in a complete reading of the Bible in 90 days. Many began the adventure, few finished it.

This program guides readers through the Bible from start to finish, "chronologically" in 12 pages a day.

12 pages a day might not sound like too much, but 12 pages of Scripture is dense & demanding. Making it through Leviticus is a challenge to get through! I also had many congregations who really struggled with the violence in the Old Testament. With this structure you have to "sit in" this violence for many days. This alone caused many to abandon the journey.

There is another program that leads readers through the Bible in 1 year. In this program readers read from several different parts of the Bible each day, they may read several chapters of an Old Testament book, a Psalm, & chapters from the Gospel/Epistles.

The pros & cons of the programs are varied.
-With the 90 day Bible program you understand the entirety of Scripture. You read it from start to finish! You read what comes next. But some parts of Scripture are emotionally draining & difficult to read. With the Bible in 1 year you do not get the chronological order of Scripture, but you might feel more motivated to continue because you are introduced to varied subjects each day.
-The 90 day Bible program is done in 3 months. You make a 3 month commitment to read 12 pages of Scripture, & you have completed your goal. But those 12 pages are long! They took me 30 minutes or more to read. The Bible in 1 year gives you shorter, more manageable readings each day. But you have to commit to the program for an entire calendar year. This is a big commitment!

If you have ever tried to read the entire Bible you soon realize it is a challenging task. If you use any of the read the Bible in a year plans you will often end up quiting after a few months. With The Bible In 90 Days format I was able to read the entire Bible in 90 days at 12 pages a day. For the first time I was motivated to get through the whole Bible and it did not take a whole year to do it. Along with the Niv version Bible that is marked in twelve page daily readings throught the Bible, you can also down load the audio mp3 readings for each day from the Zondervan web site. The Bible in 90 Days is great for small group and class studies. The student and instuctor work books included in the challenge kit provide insight for each weeks readings. The DVDs have a choice of two instuctors that give you a preview and oversights for each weeks reading. If you use the work books and DVD lessons along with the Bible you have a great way to read and learn the whole Bible.
