How The Bible Changed Our Lives (Mostly For The Better) Kindle Edition
A comic exploration of both the Old and New Testaments, "How The Bible Changed Our Lives (Mostly For The Better)" is also a journey of discovery and transformation for two longtime friends who find their friendship tested, their beliefs challenged, their bodies slightly broken, and their souls (more or less) saved.
Throughout this whimsical and outrageous examination of every book in the Bible, authors Martin and Tichenor also experience epiphanies both personal and religious as they examine the "really good parts" of the Bible, revealing the hidden treasures of scripture you may have missed while reading the parts you were forced to read.
Treasures like:
* Creation, or the origin of the six-day work week
* the brighter side of Job and Lamentations
* Observing the Sabbath, and what that means for professional and college football
* The intersection of Holy Writ and entertainment: Hollywood and Divine
* The steamy adult sections of the Bible they don't teach you about in Sunday school
* Yes, Jesus's mother was a Virgin, but go back a few generations and it gets kinda complicated
* HWJV - How Would Jesus Vote?
* Newly discovered responses to Paul's letters
* The Holy Trinity, and why Three is a magic number
"How The Bible Changed Our Lives (Mostly For The Better)" is an affectionate comic memoir, sure to delight the most devout as well as the most skeptical reader.
(WARNING: Contains sects and violence. May cause unease among the humor-impaired.)

About the author

I like writing words accompanied by pictures, both on the page and on the stage. I love seeing and hearing the stuff I write said by actors, sung to music, or next to eye-catching illustrations that tell their own story.
My plays include adaptations of Frankenstein and Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" (called Dancing on the Ceiling), and crowd-pleasing comedies for the Reduced Shakespeare Company, including The Complete History of America (abridged), The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged), All the Great Books (abridged), Completely Hollywood (abridged), The Complete History of Comedy (abridged), The Complete World of Sports (abridged), The Ultimate Christmas Show (abridged), William Shakespeare's Long Lost First Play (abridged), and The Comedy of Hamlet! (a prequel).
I wrote Daisy, the Littlest Zombie (illustrated by Gary Andrews) inspired by own dark and adorable daughter, and co-wrote Pop-Up Shakespeare with Reed Martin and illustrations by Jennie Maizels.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2014Is double-barreled comic spiritual self-help a genre? Doesn't matter. This book is everything you hope for when you hear the words "Reduced Shakespeare Company"--thoroughly researched silliness, skillfully delivered at top speed. Hilariously irreverent but never disrespectful. The clever frame and alternating chapters hold it all tight and keep it moving.
I loaded this book on my Kindle on the way back from a family vacation, then annoyed my husband by reading it non-stop and refusing to drive. Like Reed after a theological discussion with his pastor, "I giggled all the way home."
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2014A surprisingly well crafted and fun exploration into the wide wide world of competitive murder, sodomy, heresy, adultery, and worshiping false idols, How The Bible Changed Our Lives (formerly The Greatest Story Ever Sold) is a well-crafted mix of Dave Barryesque satire and playful parody of the greatest bestselling book of all time. Tichenor and Martin are just as funny on the page as they are on the stage, and these writers and performers of The Reduced Shakespeare Company execute the same raucous one-liners and reduced sensibilities that are incredibly effective in their delivery. Written humor is an art, and while their writing has been primarily been intended for performance in their professional capacity, they are no less adept at making readers like myself laugh out loud and read sentences aloud to anyone within earshot.
Where I was most surprised in this book was the ability of the authors to weave in a plot amid a nonfiction exploration into the Bible - an incredibly funny plot that is subtle in the beginning, and becomes more pronounced as the text moves on. Furthermore, their ability to weave this plot, commentary, and well-written devices into such a short book is a testament (pun intended) to their and adept collaboration skills.
Definitely a book well worth the price of admission, easily persuading even the staunchest believer to consider ‘Austianity.’
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2012Since I bought the book, Amazon asked me to rate it. Since I also *wrote* the book, I rate it pretty highly. I think it's an amusing and sincere look at faith and our own personal struggles with it. It's irreverent, and there's some definite exaggeration for comic effect, but it's honestly felt, and reverently offered.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2012We got this book as a gift . . . and being familiar with Martin and Tichenor's other works, I wasn't surprised but was delighted by the tongue-in-cheek approach, a funny but respectful (if you've got an open mind!) take on one of the most popular faith-philosophies on the planet.
HOWEVER . . . Amazon really screwed up the delivery! The text is "justified", but they somehow failed to recognize what is a word, "justifying" the spaces w/o regard to what comprises a word! Yep, lines of text break up right in the middle of words - any word, including "we", "the", etc., with some letters at the end of one line and the rest at the beginning of the next. Makes it REALLY difficult to read!
And it's not a feature of my reading devices - it shows up that way with any chosen text size on my Kindle, iPad, and iPhone. . .

Struggled to read this. I like what I can read, but there seem to be chunks of the text missing. A real shame - I've returned it for a refund, but will re-purchase the minute the problem is fixed.
