Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Children, by their very nature, are trusting. They believe whatever stories, myths, songs, poems--and yes, sadly TV shows--they are exposed to. As parents and teachers, we have an opportunity to share the stories we love. Children believe in miracles. They see good in humans and expect to be treated with love. They are keen to discover new worlds and meet new people.
May you and your children enjoy sharing these selected Bible stories, and the follow-up activities. From them, may you build a firm foundation on which your kids can confidently and competently make those important decisions. As the "Bible For Kids" book is designed to be read sequentially or by selecting your favorite stories and reading those first.
Talk with your child about the stories. Relate them to events in his life. Enjoy one or all of the follow-up activities included after each story. Share the facts, the lessons and the application to your child's life.

About the Author

My name is Fiona Wesley. As a child I was lucky enough to have a mother who believed in sharing our family's cultural heritage with us kids. She told us fairy tales. She read myths. She recited nursery rhymes as we were getting ready for bed. And, she read us Bible stories.
I have no idea whether she knew the research about raising a reader. I suspect she read and recited and sang lullabies and folk songs to us because that is what her mother did.
What she instinctively did was provide us kids with a base upon which to build our morals and beliefs.
Teaching children the age-old Bible stories prepares them for making those all-important, life-changing decisions.
Proverbs 22: 6 says, "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it."
That is why I have entitled this collection of my favorite Bible stories As "Bible For Kids".

This is such a clever take on the traditional Bible! As a child, my attempts at reading the Bible quickly stalled out as I struggled to understand the stories and parables. This version is easy to read to younger children, and easy to read for older children that are ready to read chapter-style books. For children who are no yet ready to read the stories themselves, the chapters are written in easy-to-understand language, and each chapter is accompanied by a very cute and clever illustration. Many chapters also include links to the songs referenced in those chapters, so the kids reading the stories get the full effect of the book.

The best part for me was the activities. My kids loved the activities even more than the stories! Each activity is geared toward that particular "chapter" and lesson hidden within the story. The activities are simple enough that moms at home can find the materials and do them with their children, but I think they would be exceptionally useful for Bible school or religious-minded home-school moms. I love doing activities with my kids that aren't just copies of worksheets or coloring books -- these are activities with some "meat" to them, but also incorporating easy-to-find "ingredients" in the home so I don't have to go digging around at the local teacher's store for materials!

I would highly recommend this book to friends and family looking to introduce their Christian faith to their children in an easy, organic manner while encouraging the gift of reading.

Let me just say I am so glad I found this book! I have had the hardest time finding a collection of bible stories with:
-Great illustrations,
-Clear application, and
-Engaging storytelling.

This book hits a home run in each area, and the extra activities really make the stories come to life! I especially enjoy the variety here - one activity may involve arts and crafts, and the next may involve learning a song from a linked youtube video; it's about time we found a way to put all of this distracting technology to good use!

I couldn't recommend this book enough for parents who are sick of what is being fed to their kids through the usual outlets. These are clear, engaging ways to present the timeless truths of the bible to your young ones!

This is a good collection of Bible stories for the bedtime story crowd as well as beginning readers. There are dozens and dozens of absolutely beautiful illustrations throughout, and the grandkids loved every one of them.

It's a nice way to teach them important lessons and keep them entertained at the same time. Plus there are a lot of activities at the end of each chapter, like videos to watch or crafts to make, or even having the kids interview each other to find out what everyone's favorite things are.

My five-year-old nephew is very restless when we go to the church and doesn't pay attention to the mass. My sister was fed up with this behaviour of his and simply did not know how to calm him down and make him listen to her when she wanted to tell him about the Lord and also narrate some Biblical stories to him. That's when I came to the rescue and found this book for her.
Now, she reads a story from this book to him every night, and the next morning they do the fun activities related to the story. This really got him interested, and on finding out that these stories are from the Bible, he actually looks into the Bible and my sister shows him the sayings related to the story and also the meaning of the story in the Holy Book. He now pays attention in Church and tries to relate the things taught in Sunday School to the stories in this book.

My sister can't stop thanking me enough for introducing her to this book. The stories are written in a way that will keep the kids entertained and will get them interested. They've been portrayed in a very adorable and child-friendly mannerism. I think this book reaches out to the younger generation and asks them to remember the reason for their existence. :) Brilliant work by the author!

The author tells the stories of the Bible in a straightforward, unembellished manner. In one way this is good -- in another they do not make the storeis come alive as much as I would wish. The activities suggested after each story will require adult-teacher supervision. I don't think most children will be self-motivated to perform these activities.

Some of the illustrations are really off-kilter, cartoonish and don't always capture the story well. Also the stories are not totally in chronological order. For instance, the author places the story of David and Goliath after stories about Jesus. And Sodom and Gomorrah near the end of the book. I think children need to be introduced to the Bible stories in order to make the best sense of them.

I love the Bible and I've written many stories about it also. So I do not like to give this book less than a five-star review. Some readers will be able to slant the telling of these stories to suit the young listeners, and that is good. Good also to lead to discussions between parents and children. Thanks to the author, though, for sharing her storytelling talents in this important way.
