I must say this chair is remarkable. I am 5'-10" and 250 pounds and I don't worry about whether this chair will hold up. It is practically bullet-proof in its construction. The pockets that receive the DAC rods where you'd expect the most stress are reinforced with a very strong material. The stitching reminds you of what you see on climbing equipment or high quality backpacks. Each of the 4 corners are reinforced with thick padding so that nothing pokes into your shoulders or thighs while you're sitting. The shape of the chair is perfect and comfortably seats your tired bum after a long hike. You could easily fall asleep in this chair. The DAC rod technology is amazing for its light weight and strength. The high impact plastic haunches where the rods come together is also well constructed and cleverly designed. You can set-up and take down the chair from its carry pouch in less than 30 seconds. It takes a bit of effort to force the rods into the pockets, but once they are in there you don't worry they will pop out.
If there is one draw-back it would be that the chair feels a little wobbly when you first sit in it or shift around a bit. But that is least to be expected for a chair weighing less than 2 pounds. I don't believe it makes the chair unstable at all. It is good to have the chair on fairly level ground and depending on the soil the legs will sometimes sink into the ground. But in some cases that might not be all that bad. I like that it sits off the ground a little higher than the other chairs like this. It makes it easy to get in and out of, plus I think it enhances a more comfortable sitting position. Yes, this chair is a little pricey, but I have to say that it is one of the best $90 I ever spent. I am one of those backpackers that like to sacrifice a little weight for comfort and this is one comfortable chair. My hat's off to the designers of this one.
This chair is well worth the cost, it's very light weight, easy to assemble, comes in it's own carry sack. It does not take up too much room and it is extremely comfortable. Though depending on where you are camping/sitting the chair may sink into the soil. You're going to want to get some tennis balls and cut a hole in the top, you'll then be able to slip them on the feet of this chair. I'm able to fit 4 slightly smaller dog toy tennis balls in the bag with the chair. Alternatively you could probably find 4 rocks that are similar and flat to sit each foot on. Depends if you want to take the time to find 4 rocks or one large one every time you use the chair in the woods. This is not a down fall of this chair, but rather a reflection of how annoying soil can be, it's just exacerbated with this chair due to the small feet that are easier to sink into the soil.
But i'm about 235 5'9" and this chair fits me comfortable. Treat it well and it will treat you well.
I liked the concept though so I decided to spend a few extra bucks and take a chance on this one.
I love it! Although it is still tight, I can put the seat on without unreasonable effort. The frame components do not seem overstressed.
The cheaper one was comfortable but I felt like I was sliding off a little. That could be just a matter of individual variations. I feel better nestled in the helinox one though.
Another concern of mine was getting in and out of it. I'm 5'4'' and have knee replacements but had no trouble getting out. I also like the slight reclining positioning, my back doesn't like sitting bolt upright.
I frequently skip going to the neighbors to sit on their patio and chat because the chairs are such that I sit bolt upright. Now I will just bring this one.
I got the pretty meadow green one and plan on taking it on long dayhikes so I can take a comfortable break without sitting on the ground full of ticks and bedbugs. I'll also take it to get togethers, so much lighter than those other folding chairs, more comfortable as well. I don't mind the lack of cup holder or armrests.
I will probably pick up another one of these eventually.
