Blake Woolven is CEO of his business and Alpha wolf and heir to his Pack. He's all powerful and full of intensity. Pretty much everything you'd imagine an Alpha wolf to be. He takes women at his leisure, never committing...but always searching for his mate. The only one worthy of him. When he meets the inferior and puny human, Randi Rutger...confusion hits him in full force. Because he scents her as his mate. He reassures himself that it's all a colossal mistake...that this human female, who'd rather see him dead than give him the time of day, was NOT his mate. (think again Blake!).
I loved Randi Rutger. She's a 6'1", big and beautiful woman. She's a spitfire with flaming red hair. She's a hurricane with a vendetta against Blake Woolven, his family and his Corporation...and she won't rest until she's destroyed him and brings down his empire.
This story started off with a crescendoing bang for me. I got comfy and settled in for a great read...anticipation running high within me for this woman who stumbles upon Werewolves and doesn't know it. AND, unbeknownst to her, she's the mate to Blake, the heir. This guy who she hates is trying to woo her. It was pretty great. But the story quickly mellowed out once she discovers what Blake and his brothers are and goes in a different direction. Yeah she's pretty freaked, but not as freaked as I expected her to be. She accepts the situation faster than I felt was normal. I loved how this author portrays the devotion wolves have for their mates. It was told perfectly with fined tuned precision. I warmed to all the secondary characters as well. What I didn't like was not knowing how old the main characters were. I didn't like having so much controversy and drama introduced into the story, and the story abruptly stopping without any conclusion, leaving me hanging. So, I get it...I gotta buy the next book to find out about the War that's coming...or what happens to the Vampyr nation...or Uncle Warner and his kidnapped bride...or Parker marrying the wrong woman, or Randi's dad, or her college roommate. What happened to all of them, Ms.DeWylde? All of this stuff was slapped down in front of me and right when I was getting ready for a taste of all that delicious drama... you whooshed it away. Story over. Cliffhanger! Not nice!!
Third person omniscient perspective with both characters point of view.
Randi is a human who wants to take down Blake and his company because she believes him/them to be the reason her father hung himself. Blake is, you guessed it, a werewolf. In this world, they are not out in the open (it's pretty much contemporary besides the magic aspect). Randi is a spitfire with some body image issues and a lot of anger. Blake is a werewolf alpha with a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and a rather uncouth image in both circles he runs in. He recognizes Randi as his mate as soon as she walks into his office and that's where the story starts. He has to find a way to woo her despite her conviction that he had a hand in her father's death.
I was not a huge Randi fan. She was a bit whiny for my tastes, but setting that aside, she made a good match for Blake. I enjoyed that he didn't fight the bond but instead tried to work with it. He was very patient. Also, a bit too cocky, but I didn't expect less with a title like this. :)
If you like your heroes wealthy and able to sprout fur, some heavy steam, a good dose of fighting, some brotherly love, and an enemies to lovers theme, this is a good read.
Okay, on a serious not this book is outstanding. I grabbed this on a freebie list then proceeded to contact/stalk the author because I couldn't get enough. I grabbed the novella and book 2 right away and I highly recommend out do the same.
Blake Woolven is a hot shot CEO and the uber sexy and strong pack alpha. Only he just discovered he has a weakness... Randi Rutgers.
Randi is out for revenge against billionaire playboy Blake Woolven. She believes that he is connected to her fathers death somehow and will stop at nothing to destroy Blake, even go to work for him. What's that saying? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. That truly fits this story.
This story will not give you sparkling vampires and not all wolves are good. What you will get is an amazingly captivating story that leaves you craving more. This isn't my normal genre but I'm so glad I grabbed it. I'm now a fan for life and you will be too.
