The book is fairly well written, developing the heroes, villains, and creatures well. The villains get revealed as evil men, a piece at a time, with their truly logical horror and terror exposed fully in a series of fights, hide-and-seek chases, and heroic stand-up fighting. The heroes are not supermen, but develop as stressed, harried academics and military men, concerned for their families. There's a great deal of quiet, understated faith in the novel, acting as the heroes' underpinning. The story drag a bit in places, but these are the "second reel" resets and expositions, and are no great deal.
All in all, a nice read: easy to pick up and set down, and a nice, trashy monster adventure.
Its so good I read the whole book in a single sitting, literally unwilling to put it down.
The action is followable and thrilling, the characters interesting and likable, and the explanations believable within the context of the story - no mean feat for a kaiju story.
Well worth buying.
