Big Book of Solitaire

Purchased as a gift for a Solitaire addict who only knew Klondike and wanted to expand her repertoire. She works many lonely hours as a caregiver and loves this book. Easy to understand and she's already mastered some new games of varying levels of difficulty.

Highly recommend this well-organized book.

I have several books on solitaire, but like this one the best. For each game there is a nice illustration of the layout with clear, simple instructions for the rules. I gave my original copy to my 13 year old granddaughter, who had been hospitalized, because it is clear enough for her to follow without any help from me. I bought myself a replacement copy. Before I gave my granddaughter the book, she had been discussing Solitaire with a nurse. (I had already shown her 4 or 5 games that I knew from memory.) The nurse told my granddaughter there was only one game of Solitaire.

I have owned this book for some time & I still enjoy going through the book looking for new games to play & refreshing my memory as how to play games that I have not played in awhile. The games are alphabetized, & list the degree of difficulty, & length of time required to play. The book has games for 1 deck of cards or two. While some instructions are difficult to understand on some of the games, there are plenty of games to play - a total of 101 games. Some of my favorites are Alhambra, Calculation, Cliffs of Dover, Clock, Friendship, Klondike, Mary Stuart, Nestor, Quadrille, Royal Audience, Royal Court, Thirteen, Thirteen Wisemen. My Mother loves to play Spider. I write down the date that I 1st played a game & whether I liked the game by each of the titles at the top of each page. I imagine that most kids 12 & up could play most of the games listed above with parental instruction. I like to play easy games just to relax. My little old 90 year old grandmother used to play Solitaire every night, & I feel close to her when I play.

A great help.I love solitaire so much because it helps with mental sharpness and it's a peaceful activity(Also because other people agrivate the crud out of me,so I'm left with having to play by myself).I am a self teacher of sorts, and learn best by reading rather than someone telling me how to do something. This book has such nice drawn illustrations which make "getting it"a bit easier.Though I would love more in depth detail and description of the games,if you already understand the concept and play of simple solitaire then this info is enough to get it.I recommend this book,it's really helpful :)

The book is beautifully presented with great illustrations....however....I sat down with my 9 year old to learn some new games and felt that the directions were lacking some key components. I ended up on Google trying to figure out how to really play those 2 games. I'm still happy to have the book and will continue to try to learn some new games and hope that I just picked the 2 duds and the others will make more sense.

Sadly, this does not compete well with online Solitaire games. Likely no fault of the book, that's just the way it is these days. I wanted to teach my grandson how to play Solitaire the old fashioned way, like my grandpa taught me, with a real deck of cards, but it fell short. Maybe better for an older child. My grandson is 7.

My sister loved it. It was my birthday present to her. She said she needed something to do with her hands while watching TV. Good ole Sis.
