The Big Clean was a great read for me. It was a straight forward book about organizing and cleaning your house. I'm not a huge fan of cleaning, but this book really got me motivated. I particularily liked the tips on how to save money, as well as what to do with your old stuff once you clean it out of the closets. The book was well organzied and gives a person everything they need to do in order to get that clean house and then everything they need to do in order to maintain it. And that's exactly what I needed. Additionally, it was entertaining and funny. The best part of this was that life truly does get easier once you have a system of organizing and cleaning your house and this book gave me that.

I didn't find this book all that helpful. And despite the title, there's no discussion of "freeing your mind". There is cleaning advice for different rooms/closets/etc, but it's all on the order of "take everything out, get rid of some of it, clean the space and objects, put them back". Well, duh! This one's going in the donate or consignment pile.

It helps you really think about how to clean, and with what, etc. But she talks about sorting clothes into 3 piles... the third is your clothes with holes and stains, etc. To give to CHARITY! NO! These clothes should be THROWN AWAY! It really does break my heart that people give their trash clothes to someone in desperate need. I think the 2nd pile of clothes "the good clothes you don't want or can't wear anymore" should be split down the middle. Half to "sell" half to "give away". It's just so rude and incosiderate. Think about it... If you had been in a horrible situation and had to leave everything, and buy things with hardly any money... so you went to donation shops... would you want to wear old, torn, stained, smelly clothes? Wouldn't that just make you feel more horrible? I don't know.. that's my opinion. It really made me upset when I read that though. Other things she said kind of turned me the wrong way, but this by far was the worst. Good cleaning book though still. Just don't take everything to heart.

So this book is more like an over detailed to-do list. If you have never cleaned a room before and don't know how this book is a great start. However, if you have been cleaning your own house for years...you don't need it. There are a few good ideas and tips, but worth the whole book? No. I like the idea of getting rid of things to make cleaning easier, but honestly thats pretty obvious too. Good for adult kids who never learned to work and needs to lean how to clean their own house. I agree with the other reviewer who talked about what the author said about donation piles. I do not think you should donate your trashy clothes. If you wouldn't wear it anymore why is it good enough for charity? Overall, I'm glad I only spent a dollar on it.

This book has a lot of great information that I have been looking for. I would recommend this book to others. I also really like the "supplies needed" & "here's how it works"!

The down side to this book is - The 3/4 sign where there should be a bullet (blends in). And secondly there is too much unnecessary information (story's, etc...)
