I have memories as a kid of my father showing me the classic documentary The Last Waltz. I have a feeling my son will have the same memories of me watching this documentary over and over again.

I was lucky enough to see Mumford and Sons just before they blew up at a little venue with 200 people in Phoenix and then less than a year later with over 10,000 people at the biggest venue of this Rail Road Revival Tour in Tempe. Being at the concert was an unforgettable experience, and this documentary captures that brilliantly.

I would have liked more interviews with the muscians, I would have liked to have learned more about them. That is my only criticism of this video. I watched it two times in the few hours since it arrived via UPS. The music, the bands, the train, it is musical nirvana.

Nothing will beat having been a part of the rail road revival tour, but this video captures it and I hope you will watch it and watch three brilliant bands, Mumford, Old Crowe Medicine Show, and Edward Sharpe make beautiful music that will have you tapping your feet and dancing while watching this over and over again.

The corporate descriptor has it about right regarding this brief (67 minutes) documentary. "3 bands. 6 cities. 1 train, and thousands of miles of track..." The bands are the U. K.'s Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros from L. A. and the Old Crow Medicine Show from Tennessee. The train stops and concert venues are Oakland, San Pedro (L. A.), Phoenix, Austin and New Orleans. I know I'm missing one. Maybe L. A. and San Pedro are considered separately.

In any case don't expect a concert film. It isn't. Certainly there is plenty of music, especially the final joyful 3 band collaboration on "This Train." The unrated film is the Amtrak equivalent of a PG Jack Kerouac "On the Road" film. We see the various bands practice, write songs together, jam and generally have a good time with various family members along for the ride. For this viewer, I enjoyed the gig in Austin when the Mumfords invited the Austin H. S. marching band to perform with them with the hit song, "The Cave." The kids were having a blast in front of thousands of fans.

The Blu ray version comes in 1080p with a 1.78:1 aspect ratio and includes a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack as well as 2.0 PCM Stereo. They do a good job of transforming the folk, bluegrass and rock songs from the bands. The video and audio are both excellent. The package includes a DVD version with compressed Dolby Digital audio (5.1 and 2.0). Extras include an interview with the director Emmett Malloy and some of his photos as well as some deleted scenes.

What a great documentary. All three bands are amazing. Alexander Ebert (Edward Sharpe) and his music is the 2nd coming of Jesus. Old Crow Medicine show needs to stop screwing around and do a Northwest tour....please. But seriously, this documentary was great. I loved it, my kids loved it and it's the closest thing you can get to experiencing this legendary tour outside of being there. Easy purchase.

What a fascinating movie! I was a fan of Mumford, and had heard a little of OCMS and Edward Sharpe, but through this video I came to love all three bands.

A unique concept done very well. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds.

Though I'm already a huge fan of all three bands, and this may be bias, you don't have to be a fan to appreciate the artistry and the type of music to enjoy this film. As described, the three bands go old school traveling-music show type acts of the late 1800's and early 1900's and start from California and end in Louisiana. It's more of a film about the intense spiritual and awesome connection when traveling with bands and people that just connect on every level, and the idea of doing all this on a train just ads to the overall feeling. It's not your basic video of an entire concert as it's a mock up of difference places, different shows and behind the scenes. Can't really say anything bad about this film.

Only reason I knocked it down to 4 stars was because it should have been longer. I could have watched this thing forever and didn't want it to end. Especially the last part when all the band members were on stage sining "This Train" together, that was just an awesome uplifting experience.

I love this documentary on Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show! I can't count how many times I've watched this film. I love the music, the scenery, the energy, and of course the musicians themselves! It's beautifully filmed. I think I might go watch it right now!!

This is a great short documentary about a train tour featuring Mumford and Son's, Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show.

If you are fan of any of these bans, I highly encourage you to pick this up. Quick note though: while it does splice in concert footage, it is not a "Concert Movie", so don't expect any of the stops to be fully recorded and shown.
