Another serious problem for me was the lack of resolution. The story concluded with two heros and two heroines entertaining into relationships but with no idea where they would go from there. They just hooked up but they live in different states, so what happens? We aren't given any insight into the resolution. I hate cliffhangers, and calling a book part one of a series does not mean the author gets a free pass on providing an ending.
I found the different points of view and flashbacks distracting. Some readers like them, but I didn't like the switching back and forth.
On the plus side, the writing mechanics were good with only a few minor typos.
This book might appeal to a younger audience, but I don't believe it is one with universal appeal. It is not one I would recommend, but I can see that others would like it. Thus far, mine is the only negative review, so I am obviously in the minority on this one. My opinion is just that, my personal opinion about the book. I deleted it, which normally would be a one star book, but I raised it to a two because of the writing mechanics.
I really enjoyed getting to know Scarlett or Red as she is called and Mason as their story unfolds through present day and flashbacks. Having grown up in a small town, I could really relate to what it is like for everyone to know your business. Red's life spirals out of control and the whole town witnesses it as she is reconnected with Mason by accident. The story picks up speed and kept me reading and turning pages rather quickly as I got more invested in each character. Mason is the perfect Southern gentleman and finds the introverted Red absolutely mesmerizing. It is a fun read and throw in Red's best friend Mary Lou and lots of rom com moments are made.
I thought this was a great start to this novella series by S.J. Sawyer and have the 2nd one all ready to read because I need to know what happens between Red and Mason! Fun, sassy, light read that you will want to read more from this author!
*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.*
This was a fun, witty, refreshing read! The characters are young and going through what I'd like to call the "growing up" stage after high school. That means they are responsible but still make irresponsible choices, make mistakes, and are still relatively carefree. That being said, if you are at a point in your adult life and feel like you just need a break and need to get away, I think this would be a great series for you to read!
The way that this book was new and interesting to me. I wasn't quite sure how I felt about it. It's written in the present, then is written as a flash back, then the present, etc. This is the first book I've read like it, and it took me a little bit to get used to it. However, I think I've come to the conclusion that I enjoyed the writing style. It works well with the story and how the author wrote it!
Details and description were well written. There was enough information to understand what was going on and to allow you to be able to visualize the scenes. I think it was "lacking" just enough detail to allow each reader to make the characters "their own." I LOVE when authors do this. It allows us as readers to make the characters in our own vision without have to create them in our mind from scratch. This was a huge bonus for me as I was reading.
This author is a fan of cliff hangers, just a warning to those that aren't such a fan of them. I suggest you get all the books before you start reading them, that way you can just keep reading! I was lucky enough to be gifted all of the books so I could just keep going!
This was a great read and a great get-a-way! I definitely suggest to grab this book and the rest in this series to read!
