The 4 Seasons (as they were originally styled) exploded onto the music scene in 1962 with their major hit Sherry, originally recorded for Bob Crewes Topix label and picked up for national distribution by Vee Jay. All parties concerned wasted little time in capitalising on this new found fame, releasing the album Sherry & 11 Others (also released by Hallmark on 712802). That album hit #6 on the album chart as well as featuring two #1 hit singles in the title track and Big Girls Dont Cry. This latter track would be the focal point to The 4 Seasons follow-up album, imaginatively titled Big Girls Dont Cry & 12 Others, which in addition to the title track would also provide another major hit in Walk Like A Man. The rush to get a new album out as quickly as possible meant there were only five Bob Crewe originals (including the previously utilised Big Girls), with some classic songs being drafted in to round out the album, including Why Do Fools Fall In Love and Silhouettes. The 4 Seasons also took the time to record a Christmas album (also due for release on Hallmark as 714172), but Big Girls Dont Cry was an album that further cemented their popularity, eventually peaking at #8 on the US charts. In the UK their albums struggled to make much of an impact, but Big Girls Dont Cry (#13) and Walk Like A Man (#12) made respectable showings on the singles chart.

My only criticism is that I would have liked to have seen the stereo version and the non-album B-side(s) in tandem with this mono release. I suspect the expense would have been too great for Real Gone to keep to a reasonable price.
NOTE: I have included this same review for the simultaneous Real Gone release 'Sherry & 11 Others'
