While there are lots of funny parts in The Big Girl's Guide to Buying Lingerie, it's not a comedy. It's actually a really hot romance.
Jade met Robbie in an on-line fan forum and knew each other as Skyebaby and Shy Cowboy. They had come to know each other really well after messaging for months. But when Shy wanted to meet Skye, she tried to put him off. She didn't want him to see her because she was embarrassed with the weight she'd gained over the last 3 years since her fiance left her at the alter. She was a size10 back then and because her mother thought she was too big and gave her a hard time about it then, she felt terrible about the size she was now.
Talk about opposites attracting. Jade came from a well-off, snobby family - well her mother and sister were snobs but not her father and brother. Rowdy went out with a lot of woman in what he called a wife-for-a-night. He had an extended family and was self-employed in the computer business. When they finally met, they couldn't believe that they already knew each other. I loved that Jade and Rowdy disliked each other so much but Skye and Shy liked each other a lot.
Life gets tricky for this couple when Jade's family had a birthday dinner at the Country Club for her. Her mother arranged for Jade's ex to be there, trying to get them back together. But, to get her mother off her back, Jade told them she was engaged. There is a lot of drama and humor as Jade and Robbie pretend to be engaged.
After reading the blurb I was looking forward to reading this book. I especially loved the warning about this book containing cookie consumption, shopping, rants about bras, lost bras, stolen bras. I would recommend this book to romance readers, especially if you like them funny and spicy.
-Like the meeting online, hate in real life/You’ve Got Mail trope.
-Has a BBW heroine who is actually BBW, again, this is my jam so I was into it. *does a little awkward happy dance*
-Part of series, but still worked as a standalone. I didn’t need to read the previous books, but there’s alot of characters in this one, so I would’ve liked to have had that backstory. But the freebie wasn’t the first one, so...you know, I made do.
-The characters aren’t cookie cutter and have distinct personalities. I know I did not like Jade Skye (yes, that’s the heroine’s full name) when I met her, but I respect that she was a product of her upbringing and she does grow emotionally throughout the story to someone that I didn’t actively dislike. Same for Rowdy (these names were killing me), he’s not perfect and yet he does have a distinct arc and grows as the book goes on. However…
-Lines are crossed. If y’all know how I roll with my romances (no OW/OM contact unless it’s erotica) then you KNOW I was displeased when I hit about the halfway point. Yes, it colored my perception and lowered my rating BUT, I did keep reading because the writing was interesting, so kudos for that.
-It doesn’t all come together. Unfortunately, to me romance is king. If I’m not feeling that, then it falls flat. Also, the ending felt a bit rushed and while I liked aspects of the story, the romance turned out to be more Price is Right horn than my jam, as it were.
The Bottom Line 2 stars
It was an borderline ok book that could have been more had I loved the romance.

I nearly gave this two stars but to say I didn't like it would not be completely true, because honestly it didn't make me feel one way or another. It made no impression at all and from about 55 percent on my kindle I skim read to the end just in case there was some huge twist to the story.
I really enjoyed the start and liked the premise which involves Jade the lead characer who has been flirting with a man called Robbie through a fan website for a singer they both like. When she discovers she already knows this person and does not have a great opinion of them she is disappointed but convinced they are not meant to be. This held promise and I thought I would see a lot of sparky interactions and witicisms but instead there is a lot of commentary with the two involving Robbie/Rowdy's friends and family and his thoughts on Jade which left me bored silly I am sorry to say. I would have preferred to stay solely with Jade's thoughts than hear what Robbie thought about Jade's bras.
Again I have to say this is not everyones opinion and if you are looking for a sweet, nonobtrusive, sexy tale where not much happens this is probably for you.
I loved this book, I would have read it in one go but fell asleep at 3.18am, woke up at 6am and now finished it.
I loved how the two lead characters, Jade and Rowdy meet, online, all goes well, then they meet for real........sparks fly.
This book made me laugh, brought tears to my eyes and relate to every feeling Jade had.
