XXL Fuf - Blue Sky Comfort Suede
20 Years ago, two guys in college with too much time on their hands started making FUF filled chairs with a cover sewn by mom and foam that they begged, borrowed and bartered from local manufacturers. With the question, 'why wouldn't everyone want one of these?' their quest for 'Comfort for All' began.
Today, Big Joe and Lux by Big Joe are a household name known for affordability, great designed chairs, pet beds and pool products. And, a few years ago the guys wanted to extend the 'Comfort for All' philosophy by giving 10% of products to bring comfort to those in need. So, when you buy a Big Joe Chair, you're not the only one who will be a bit more comfortable.

You've Got A Freind In Fuf
Taking care of a Fuf is a lot like hanging out with an easy going friend. If you follow these simple instructions, your Fuf will love you for years to come.

Worth The Wait
Your Fuf chair is packaged under high compression so it takes 7–10 days to expand and get comfortable in its new home. You can help to make it feel at home a bit quicker by re-fufing to distribute the Fuf foam throughout the chair.
This is it – the chair that brought Bean Bags out of the 70’s and into the new millennia, the one and only: the Big Joe Fuf Chair. So you might be asking, what in the world IS a Fuf? And how do I even say it?! Well the Fuf (pronounced FOOF), is a patented, one-of-a-kind seat not to be mistaken for your average bean bag chair (trust us, we know - we make those, too!) If you’re looking for a big, long-lasting, cushy, lounge-around chair, you’ve come to the right place. Filled with a shredded mix of foam and memory foam, the Fuf can be fluffed again and again to continuously bring it back to its full, cushy potential, just like your favorite pillow. The Fuf Chair ships in a box a fraction of its size, but fear not, it will expand over time. It can take up to 7 days to grow to its full size, and boy, will it grow. This XXL Fuf chair is a mighty presence at a near 7 ft long, and 75 pounds. So go ahead, fluff it up, and sink into the glorious comfort that is the Big Joe Fuf. Spot Clean Only.

I talked to Amazon and they sent a replacement. When I got the replacement, without taking it out of the box and letting it expand, I opened up the zipper and could see/feel similar pieces with hard surfaces on them.
My guess is the company's quality control has degraded. Probably most of the early bags had relatively good quality control where the foam pieces were cut into smaller and regular shapes, and the hard pieces that were cut were thrown away. With the popularity of the product, maybe they started running out of foam and so they started keeping all the pieces and didn't bother trimming away the harder parts. Also, I got some powdery stuff from the foams - which indicates that some of the foam pieces had dried out and had disintegrated.
I just looked at a couple of pages of 5-star reviews and a couple of pages of 1-star reviews. A great majority of the 5-star reviews are from 2013 or earlier. Most of the 1-star reviews seem to be from 2014 and 2015. This seems to indicate that the earlier products were better in quality than the newer products.
I'm attaching 4 pictures. The first shows the bag with some of the foam taken out. The second picture shows the foam that was taken out of the bag. For what it's worth, from these two pictures, you can see that the foam pieces are not cut into regular pieces and they are not cut into small pieces.
The third picture shows some of the foam pieces that I noticed were hard as I removed handfuls from the bag. It also better shows the varying sizes and shapes, and the irregularity of the shapes. Also, the middle of this picture shows pieces of plastic sheets that were part of the stuffing for the bag.
The fourth picture shows 3 bags that contain the foam I removed from the Fuf bag. The left bag has hard parts to the foam. The right 2 bags have foam pieces that do not have hard parts. However, these two bags have pieces that are sort of crunchy (like they're getting dry), and the pieces vary in softness. Some are thin sheets that are very soft and some are bulky pieces that are dense. Anyhow, from this sample, it appears that 1/3 of the foam has hard parts that would be uncomfortable when you're lying on it.
The description says the bag is "Filled with super soft and long lasting fuf foam re-fuf again and again for custom comfort." Fuf foam must be their name for recycled foam pieces from a variety of sources.
So I got on Amazon.com and chatted with customer service. He immediately said I can return it and he would process a return label. I immediately asked how was I to ship it back since it was huge now. He said that I can compress it back down and put it in a box to return. I said I don't have anything to put it in to compress it down like the company did. So I asked if I could dump the garbage out of it and return the bag itself and he said yes I could. GREAT!!! Problem solved! This is going back.
PLEASE look at my pics I'm including to see the unbelievable junk inside this bag! It's literally chopped up recycled pieces of foam and some pieces are fairly hard chunks like the black ones in the pic. And notice the thin white pieces. They are like Styrofoam take-out plates from a restaurant!!! THIS DOES NOT CONTAIN MEMORY FOAM!!!! I REPEAT, NOT ONE SINGLE PIECE OF MEMORY FOAM COULD BE FOUND INSIDE THIS BAG! It's scraps from what looks like carpet and upholstery places!!! I wouldn't post this if it were not so unbelievable.
It should be seen as a positve that they vacuum pack the sucker into an amazingly small box (considering the final size of the product) to cut on their shipping costs (and to make it possible to move the box around). It clearly states in the included information that you have to WAIT for it it attain its full expanded shape. Right away, you can get your hands "in there" and knead the memory foam blocks inside, pulling them apart (through the supple cover of course) and shifting them so that the expansion goes as fast as possible but no matter what ... you have to WAIT. They will continue to expand for some time - not exactly sure but I wouldn't be surprised if there was still some expansion going on at 7 or 8 days.
One fact that people need to be aware of though (and some other reviewers have mentioned) is that this thing is BIG and it is unwieldy. Memory foam is heavy. I haven't weighed it on a scale but it would not surprise me to learn it is 20 - 30 lbs. and its size and composition makes that feel more like 50 or 60 lbs. So, even though it is a FANTASTIC chair/bag for kids, it isn't going to be easy for many of them to adjust/move it. In fact, smaller people with little hand/arm/upper body strength probably don't want to own this unless they have someone else living with them who can help them with it. My athletic and rather strong 9-year old niece
man-handled (or should I say girl-handled) the thing around but she's a tough, "get it done" kind of kid and wasn't intimidated by the awkward size or weight of the thing. The younger kids could barely shift it.
To really enjoy using it, you have to be ready each time to reach in with both hands, grab the material and lift the bag up and down many times vigorously. You have to slam it, flip it, shake it, fluff it up, and mold it to a form that suits you. If you want to lie on it, hop in the middle. If you want to sit upright and watch TV, you have to heap it up high and then sit low down on the edge of the thing and push yourself backwards into it. Experiment. Have fun. Don't be shy about yanking the sucker around.
One last note. Memory foam stinks. It isn't exactly a pleasant smell (though some find it more offensive than others of course) and it takes days ... perhaps weeks ... to dissipate. It didn't bother me much and obviously I'm not the kind of person to give the bag 1 star and rant about how the company lied to me because it didn't go out of its way to call out the smell specifically. I'm just trying to let anyone interested know that it does smell but it fades.
