I was so excited to find a book that utilized big prints but then I cut all pieces for Big Thunder only to find out the setting triangles were cut too small and after trying to sew one row I had to cut down the squares to fit the setting triangles. I wonder if the patterns were tested from the written text.

There are so many beautiful large-scale fabrics available today but little has been written about techniques to really showcase them in quilts. This book fills than niche. It is well written and offers patterns that really take advantage of larger scale fabrics rather than cutting them into pieces that are so small that the overall pattern is lost.

I finally finished one of the quilts in this book. The instructions are easy to follow, even if you are not experienced, like me. I really like that the patterns are not so traditional. I started my quilt at a retreat and got several comments on how beautiful it was. The pattern is not something any of these ladies who have been quilting for years had seen. If you are looking for something unique, this book is for you.

Quilting is an enduringly popular hobby because the quilters are making practical, beautiful, and enduringly appreciated family heirlooms with their personal needlecraft projects. In "Big-Print Quilts", quilting author Karen Snyder draws upon her many years of experience and expertise as a fabric designer with Andover Fabrics and owner of Anna Lena's Quilt Shop to create a thoroughly 'user friendly' instruction guide to incorporating big beautiful prints into quilt patterns that do not restrict them to simply borders and backs. "Big-Print Quilts" is composed of fifteen superbly presented projects offering step-by-step instructions suitable for even the most novice beginner. The presented quilting ideas range from Asian and floral prints, to paisleys and novelty prints. Of special note are the exhibited techniques are transferable and applicable to quilting with any large scale fabric. Profusely and beautifully illustrated throughout, "Big-Print Quilts" is a welcome and highly recommended addition to personal, professional, and community library Needlecraft & Quilting instructional reference collections.

This was a rather poor effort by the author. The projects just weren't very attractive. The patterns were often overwhelmed by the big prints, nothing stood out in a good way. This book is a pass for all but rabid Karen Snyder fans.

Big-Print Quilts is another 'hit-or-miss' book. "Grand Daddy" is the one quilt in the book that made me go "Ooh" - the rest? Not so much. Grand Daddy is a simple sawtooth star quilt that utilizes a large poppy floral against a cream and black background that allows the fabrics to come out and lay. The rest are, well, muddy. The author seems to write very simple quilt books, based on fat quarters, which in their place are marvelous. This one, however, feels like overreaching. The quilts could have been stunning, but wind up looking more like a muddy mess. Either the fabric overwhelms the design, or the design the fabric. No matter, I wouldn't spend the money for it, other than for the one quilt - and I have patterns galore for sawtooth stars, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you see more than one quilt that you feel you could choose better fabrics for and want to spend the money. "Hercules" could be beautiful given better fabrics, as could "Big Sky".

Its a nice book with some basic patterns especially for beginner quilters. I have several pieces of large print fabric that i want to maintain the pattern . I wish more pictures of the patterns could be shown in the quilt books.

Large fabrics can be a challenge. They are beautiful but not always easy to use in a quilt. This book meets the challenge in the way most do....by using lots of squares. It was not a disappointment, indeed there are a couple of very lovely quilts that I might one day make, but it is also not excessively inspirational. The designs, while done with care and nicely photographed, are pretty basic. If you are looking for some good basic ideas for those large prints you have, this is a nice book to use. If you are looking for some special inspiration or clever ideas, you will be disappointed.
