Buyer beware! What made The Big Red One great was "the restoration" done back in 2004 to restore the film to Samuel Fuller's vision. Warner Brothers saw fit to only put the theatrical version in high definition on the blu ray released on May 6, 2014. Yes, the "restoration" version is included, but in STANDARD definition. Big mistake, WB!

It was not as good as the "original".
Like the Apocalypse Redux...the extra material is not an improvement...i can see why it was cut.
This and the original are kind of an uneven story to begin with. Lee Marvin was 20-30 years too old for the character he played. Mark Hammil proved why he never developed an acting career passed Star Wars. I can go on but i wont.
Definitely worth seeing...especially if you are a WWII junkie.
Just do not expect a 5 Star Film.
good luck

Its interesting to have the full "director's cut" of this, the last of the "big" World War II films -- that is, until "Saving Private Ryan" came along --but its also plain to see why the scenes cut from the original theatrical release were deleted. "The Big Red One" was always Sam Fuller's personal vision, and "The Reconstruction" proves it to have been a very, very long one.

My man crush on Lee Marvin continues even though I do not think he was at this best in filming this one. Didn't like his character, didn't like his team and big red ones turn me off somehow. The movie was surrealistic to say the best and god awful to say the least. But if your collection has to include everything then you take the bitter with the sweet. Bitter.

I missed the part about the reconstruction version not being in blu-ray. They used the picture from the reconstruction dvd on this blu-ray. Not very happy about that.

This was ok. Not great, not bad. I would have liked to have seen the uncut version. Apparently it makes a bit more sense.

Different than the vhs I bought some 20 years ago, but still excellent movie for war buffs.

Liked it more when I first saw it. It's not that well done and the acting is weak in spots.

The movie was alright, however it wasn't what I expected. Also Lee Marvin was out of his element, I am used to Western Lee Marvin. Crow or Liberty Valance. Not Sarge.

Too much tedium between the action.
